Really hope they find a way to expand SJP as it is. Hate to break it to the fans that want a new stadium. I don’t think you’d get planning to build a brand new plastic fantastic stadium on leazes park. I hear many people saying build on the arena site. That’s owned by The Anschutz Corporation who paid $240M for it (that was only for the stadium and car park. More land would also need to be purchased). Our owners aren’t going to spend that much to knock it down and build a brand new stadium on the same plot. Any feasibility study would report that it wouldn’t be feasible. A feasibility study would suggest building on cheaper land etc. People might not like hearing this but there are three options: 1) Spending a lot to expand the current stadium. 2) Leaving everything as it is. 3) Building a new stadium out of town, with park and rides set up like every other modern stadium. I really really really hope the people calling for a new stadium fully understand what they are asking for. You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. I for one would be gutted if we left SJP for an out of town stadium. Life and soul would be sucked out of the club.

He’s 20 years old and he’s on the verge of breaking into the first 11 of a top 4 premier league season, he was the best player in pre season and the England manager has just asked him not to play for Scotland in a friendly. He’s shown a lot in his short career. He’s versatile. The only aspect of his game that has been slightly off is when he’s pressured in his own half. He will only get better at this with more experience though. Fans writing him off are one of the only reasons he won’t become good. We should be giving our youngsters confidence. People did the same with Longstaff and you can see he’s never fully confident. As a fan base it’s something we need to get a lot better at.

Ffs. You can tell by his passing he is going to be great. So controlled, never difficult for the receiving player to receive. Put in a cracking through ball for Barnes. He’s learning. It’s a big jump up the leagues and he’s playing in a ‘new’ position. Give him time, he’s 20. I do sometimes think we have the least patient fans in the league?

I think we’ll need quite a few new players. We have a number of players out of contract at the end of this season: Dummett Schar Lascelles Wilson Ritchie Krafth Karius Manquillo Gillespie I’d expect only Schar and Wilson will be offered new deals. If no other players are sold I’d expect we’ll need to replace the others, so therefore maybe: 1 Gk 1 RCB 1 RM Then more young players to fill the gaps in defence.

Just an fyi. Client entertainment isn’t an allowable deduction for corporation tax. So there’s no tax incentive here. If the company is claiming the cost on their tax return that is tax evasion.

Anderson has been fab this pre season. Anyone else worried how bad Targett looks? Doesn’t surprise me Eddie didn’t trust him much last season.

I think our fans were just pleasantly surprised he wasn’t as bad as he was pre Howe’s arrival. Unfortunately I never grasped the idea from some fans that say he was ‘great’ while Trippier was out. He was a stop gap and we managed to get through that period. He was still shocking at times and didn’t offer much going forward. I do worry if Trippier gets injured. It would be great if we could get him off the books. Freeing up £3m of wage space to get a good up and coming right back.

Agree. It is likely Gordon will be here for a long time even if just a squad player. He is young and has so much potential. He’s quick and looks good on the ball. He just needs some more coaching and he has the chance to become great. I think some of our fans need to give him a chance and I really don’t get the negativity towards him. It’s bunkers. We really don’t have many first team homegrown players under the age of 30 other than Longstaff and Willock so the signing is good planning for the future.
