They would be fuming about his finishing and passing, lets be real. Defensive contribution and work rate helps, but it's not enough for them. I'm not saying Longstaff is not a good player, I'm saying that many of their fans make some of their players seem like worthless trash if they're not amongst their top players. Do you really think they would not be complaining their asses off about Burn at left back? Longstaff has been important for us because he fits well into our system and his role in our team. Also because we lacked any replacement for that role when he got injured.

Imagine if Dan Burn or Longstaff was playing regularly for Manchester United. Their fans would be chasing them out of town. If they played Dan Burn at left back their fans would be furious, and rival fans would make memes about him. Nothing against Burn or Longstaff, more about what playing for Manchester United can be like if you're not one of their very best players. The expectations are extremely high.

Do we have to choose between them? Do they cost the same? Lets sell Dan Burn because Botman is better.
  4. Just a friendly reminder that this guy is available for free

I think very few would think he would be a star player for us.. Again, that's not what this is about. Howe said in an interview that what he wanted to improve was squad depth. If you burn all your money on 2-3 expensive superstars, you don't have any money left to spend. I don't understand why it's so hard to get around the idea of buying a player for rotation and competition within the squad. I agree that 30m is maybe a bit much, but if we get him for less I wouldn't be against it. If we get a couple of injuries in the midfield, even after buying a big signing in midfield, we're left with playing Joelinton out of position or playing Eliott Anderson. Is Eliott Anderson a Champions League player? With more games comes more injuries and fatigue. Obviously. And by the way, Longstaff has been important, but we saw him as someone who needed to be replaced not long ago. One of the reasons why we did worse without him was the fact that we had no replacement and needed to move Joelinton into midfield. Especially Longstaffs shooting has been abmyssal, and McTominay has a decent shot in him. Longstaff is not very good at passing either. I don't think that Longstaff is a Champions League player, and if he was playing for Manchester United their fans would probably also want him gone.

We were linked with Gordon for a good while. We're still being linked with McTominay, but it's impossible to know if we're after him. I don't think anyone would be impressed if that was our only CM signing. It would have to be alongside a bigger signing. We won the lottery and bought Dan Burn for £13 mill. Great signing that one. He will still help us next season. Rotation will be important, and we can't spend enough to be rotating between world beaters yet. And by the way: Lets not forget that he has 143 appearances for Manchester United at 26 years of age. He has the experience of playing under high pressure.
  8. My guess: Dubravka Ashby - Lascelles - Botman - Targett Anderson - Longstaff - Joelinton Almiron - Wilson - Gordon Assuming that Joelinton is not injured. Almiron has shown good form lately, and could need a goal for his confidence going into next season. Wilson probably would want to chase the 20 goal mark. Not sure if Trippier will play? Heck, we might even play Dummet at CB. This is difficult to predict.

    Anthony Gordon

I agree. He's still 22. We would've really needed another LW this window if we didn't have him, especially if ASM leaves. Did we overpay? Maybe, but it is what it is. Who knows, maybe he will prove to be worth it in the future.

I'm just saying based on the reports, and they seem to be linked to other top clubs. Prices are crazy in recent years.. Chelsea had a 50m bid rejected for Lavia last summer. It's hard to find players who has performed in the PL for around 20m.

Do you think we can spend £40-50m on one of those if we spend big on another midfielder? That's what they will demand for these players. What about the other positions then if we blow £110m on CMs? That's kind of the point.. A bit unfair to compare McTominay for £20m to £40-50m players.. (Saying £20m because most here would agree that we wouldn't want him for a higher price anyways)

If McTominay is the only signing we make in midfield, then ofcourse that's disappointing. But we can't really sign 2 £50m+ CMs.. I'd say one quality and another one for depth. I don't think McTominay would be terrible for the depth of the squad, although we could get something better for the money if we are lucky. I would say that we could've needed him the last part of the season due to Longstaffs injury. And to be honest, if other teams were linked to Longstaff for £20m, wouldn't they be also be sceptical? Longstaff doesn't look like a standout player, but the job that he does is still important and went unnoticed for a while.
  13. I remembered it wrong, apparently it's £110k per week? That's not a third of 200k. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21756995/phil-jones-man-utd-cost/ The Red Devils surprisingly handed him a new four-and-a-half year deal in February 2019 - believed to be worth 110,000-a-week.
  14. Phil Jones £200k per week Manchester United have had lots of Sancho signings.. Di Maria, Sanchez etc.
  15. Well yes, players in general last longer now than 10-15 years ago. I remember everyone was amazed about Giggs scoring a goal at 37 years of age against a weak Premier League side. Today we have players like Ronaldo, Modric, Zlatan, etc. Fernandinho played 1000 minutes in the PL for Man City last season when they achieved 93 points, he was 37 years old. Times are changing.
  16. Well, Modric is 6,5 years older than Casemiro.. Modric still did pretty well last season (not sure about this season).
  17. I don't necessarily agree with some people saying it's very concerning that we couldn't break down a team who parked the bus, we were very unlucky. Also being ineffective in some games against relegation fighting teams can happen to anyone. We will probably get some players in the window who can score some of those chances or open up defences like that. The thing that did concern me a little bit was the last 10 minutes. We've been fine in high pressure games lately, and did okay against Leicester (not looking too nervous) until the last 10. But when it really mattered towards the end, they started making silly mistakes because of the nerves. It was really obvious just by watching it on TV, and Howe said it himself. Being able to handle nerves in the most important games are so crucial. Teams in the Champions League will punish us for that easily. Our defenders kept passing the ball around only to lose it any time Leicester started putting them under a bit of pressure. They looked like they were panicking at the end. Hopefully this is not something that repeats itself, especially with players of higher quality coming in.
  18. I agree, last summer was probably your best window in a very long time. You have wasted a lot of money in previous windows on players that didn't work out or wasn't worth the tag, but last summer was really good.
  19. The low GD is partly due to 4-0 vs Brentford, 7-0 vs Liverpool and 6-3 vs City. Still not better than our GD even if you gave them +14, but more than 40% of the goals that they've conceded are from those 3 games. They've kept 17 clean sheets and conceded just 8 goals from 17 games at home. That's crazy good. As you say, if they had a good striker they would've been cooking for real.
  20. Apparently Botman likes to play golf in his spare time. We're screwed.
  21. I was just replying to "away they are helmet". They crushed Arsenal away after losing 5-1 at home to Everton. Don't think it's about away or home with them.
  22. How is Brighton not in the lead?
  23. On the home table they're 9th while away they are 4th. They're a good away team.
  24. Have they changed the rules for stopping counter attacks? I feel like it never leads to bookings anymore.
