    Kieran Trippier

Getting shitfaced in the middle of the season is not something we would brush off as a small thing if it was just about any other player. Not going to call him a waste of space, but it's pretty bad really. Obviously he is in a bad place, though, so you've got to feel for him.
  2. Guess you can't judge Longstaff too much without paying close attention to what he does off the ball. I suppose these are the things that Howe easily catches up on, either during the game, or when he's rewatching the game. That said, I wish we would pick players based on opposition a bit more often, rather than just automatically sticking with something that worked last game. For instance I wouldn't necessarily start Longstaff against a "park the bus" side, despite good form. Against Arsenal and Chelsea however, these games clearly suited him pretty well, so it was an excellent choice in the end.
  3. Yeah I said the same, there is allways the early hype of certain overperformers. I think their legs are getting tired, despite not having injury problems.
  4. Yeah that's why you don't make a judgement on teams who play CL, atleast until mid season. Fatigue could be starting to settle for them.
  5. I'm actually a bit puzzled about them not spending more in the last few seasons. Is it because the wage bill is so high? Or the charges? Doesn't seem like they are even spending what they are allowed to spend anymore, especially not when you consider their sales.
  6. I know. Maybe they got it wrong on the transfer market if the plan was to accomodate his style for the future years. But they seem to click now, that's for sure.
  7. I agree with what you are saying. But a thought that has been striking me (even before Slot arrived) is that maybe this new squad was less suited to Klopp and his style? It just seemed like some of the new signings were less suited to Klopp ball, and didn't handle it as well as the ones before them. Some players just seemed to instanly get better with a change of style when Slot arrived.
  8. I thought he wanted to play on the wing? And even demanded it for a while in PSG? The thing is they have Vini on the left.
  9. And that says it all, because we were good, but not fantastic. And still we were the better team. Not often you can say that against Man City.
  10. Said it after they played us in the first game without Rodri. Great result, but they simply looked sooo much worse than usual. And I was sure it wasn't just us making them look bad. They haven't been convincing in a single game after that. They have just been facing mediocre teams and barely won each of them.
  11. People keep taking out Rogers from their team, and I can't really understand it. Feels like a nobrainer to have him for that price. I guess after this round not many will drop him.
  12. I don't think many fans of any PL club wants owners to be able to spend whatever they want. You think we would get joy from our owners buying the new galacticos in one window and use that to win games? It's not like it has to be either everyone spends any amount, or there will have be a system in place that also just happens to completely protect the elite from long term competition. There is a world (many worlds actually) where there are restrictions in place, but they system still gives outside clubs a fair chance of success over time. It really shouldn't be that hard, and it's obvious that there is no motivation for PL and certain clubs to make the system more competitive. If anything, the motivation is evindently to make it increasingly less competitive. The system that some would talk about as "we don't want owners to spend whatever.." is actually also a system that is punishing clubs like Leicester, Everton and Aston Villa for daring to have ambitions of long terms success at the cost of certain clubs. If you support one of the "big six", I can see why you would not care about that, and rather go along with the narrative that PL are dressing it up as - they are only doing this for the fairness of the sport. I mean, why would you care about any outside club not being able to compete with you over time, or even to have such ambitions? Who cares about Everton, Leicester and Villa getting into trouble for being ambitious, while a few other clubs spend 3 times as much every window without even being close to trouble? Clearly that's the only way to stop the Saudis from spending more than every other club combined.
  13. Soon they will get a taste of that december program with CL. There is potensial for them to fall apart.

    Joe Willock

I agree. I think the lack of depth isn't as bad as many make it out to be, and last season is probably to blame for it. Last summers window was kind of meh, but it did increase depth. It was just a freak season, any team would struggle with the same amount of injuries + a 10 month ban.

    Joe Willock

I think most people on here rated him pretty highly before all the injuries. The question was just about whether he would be able to overcome all that trouble and get back on track.

    Alexander Isak

Yeah, there you go. Seems like most top strikers go through some patches where people start doubting them and/or how they fit in the system. Look at Haaland even. Typically it happens when the team isn't fully working. When it starts clicking, people don't question it anymore and it's all forgotten about. Isak will hit top form sooner or later as long as he doesn't get injured. The team finding form really does help him.

    Lewis Hall

Exactly. It's not like people wanted peak Trippier out of the lineup because he wasn't the best defensively. He made mistakes aswell, often times he got saved by teammates. Noone cared that much because he was massive offensively.

    Joelinton

They did similar when they beat us 2-0 at SJP. Maybe they were trying to replicate that or something.. The real reason why they won that was an early goal right after we missed two huge chances, though.
  19. The time when they were signing players like Jonjo Shelvey for £10m.
  20. Fair point, they actually didn't have that much.
  21. I didn't mean that you said it, didn't remember who did (was quite a few). But good thing margins goes both ways. Beating Arsenal is fantastic nomatter what happened, didn't mean to complain here.
  22. "If Gordon had scored x chance and Isak scored the other one we would have x amount of points" etc..
  23. To be fair it's not much different from going "if we had scored this and they didn't score that" when we lose.
  24. So now we're going to have Arsenal fans whining on all our social media posts for a year.
