Being able to make that formation work gives us much better depth with the current squad. A third CB can be a backup for various other positions. We certainly do have a long way to go from what we've seen so far.

Hope we can make this 5 at the back thing work at some point.. Our squad is set up so that it's convenient to play the formation, it's just not working that well yet. Whether we like it or not, there will be more games where we have to choose between that and starting Willock (or Burn at left back) etc.

Hope that we can at some point bring back the type of football we played about 2 years ago, when we beat Sheffield Utd 8-0, PSG 4-1, and Palace 4-0 in just 1 month. We played some amazing football in that run. Heck, even in the 22/23 season we won several games by a large margin. Trippier just needs to find the fountain of youth, and then we are all set.

Just like Murphy has been really good in the last year, hence why Elanga isn't going straight in as 1st choice every game? What's the big difference here? Wilson was on a dry run that started before Isak came back, and lasted for a while after he was back aswell, so he wasn't even on fire at that time. At a point we were asking for Howe to let Isak be the main man due to this. You were confused about me stating that Elanga was getting similar treatment to Isak. They both had to fight their way into the team as new players competing against a solid player than knows the system well. Woltemade probably went straight in due to lack of good options, just like Isak pre injury. Isak still ended up in a similar situation as Elanga after the early injury.
