Great post, I get the point you're trying to make, it resonates with every football fan who loves their club. But I think you're underestimating the appeal of doubling your money and moving to a club way above us in the food chain who are in the hunt for the PL & CL every year. He might feel like he's 'completed Newcastle'. He scored what turned out to be the winning goal which finnaly brought us silverware and was instrumental in getting us over the line for the CL. But no getting away from it, the optics are terrible and the media frenzy this has instigated has soured any sentiment I once had for him. I don't care if he's world class or not, he can't play for us again.

As many have already said so well, I'm not feeling down about this because we're set to lose the best player we've had in generations, it's more the fact that we could and we would be willing to pay him a salary that he'd be able to get elsewhere along with giving everyone else in the squad a payrise as and when they wanted it but are prevented from doing so as the cartel pulled up the drawbridge as soon as they sensed that we were a threat.
