Our DOF, responsible for transfers, left as soon as the window opened. It’s clear there’s been a failing in this area of the club. The buck stops with Eales there but, the poor man, is ill. Evenso, Eales should have (been?) moved aside and a new CEO put in place. This is a CL season and, at this rate, we have little chance of doing well.

He is (if he can replicate the way he’s played at Fluminense) - one of the best players in Serie A Brazil, IMHO.

Hurts like hell but, looking at the big picture, this could be the break we need. All depends how we spend the money but our recent signings have been excellent. If he wants to go let him, but get the most we can, and move on because purples need to be sold for us to move to the next level in a world with PSR.

Eventhough it ‘hurts’ our caution in the transfer market is justified. There’s a long list of clubs who have bought several players that just weren’t good enough or didn’t fit. You tie your hands financially in future in terms of PSR and get lots of foot stamping from the same folk who are criticizing this window. Our strategy was right, it didn’t work. Time for a new one.

Doubling club income?

Pre-season (2026/27): NUFC to play Everton at Murrayfield on 12/08/26

Do some research. Then come back. -
Our competitive advantage over other clubs is EH and his ability to improve players. This suggests we should not be looking at PL ready players. They’re just too expensive.

That maybe true but there’s nothing racist about ‘stop the boats’. -

Time for the annual post: Friendlies mean nothing unless one of our players gets injured. -
And some people (not you) are negative as a default. We are football supporters - surely it’s all about being positive and not moaning frequently? I certainly don’t agree that resisting negativity is unconstructive. Quite the opposite, in fact.

What’s all this ‘cartel clubs swoop in once we’ve identified a player we want to sign’ narrative. The cartel clubs do have scouting teams as well, probably better than ours. It’s quite obvious we can’t compete with those clubs yet in the transfer market - apart from money (PSR), London is a bigger pull and Liverpool and City have very recent success in the top competitions. It’s not rocket science and nowt to do with us being slow.
-
I get what you’re saying loud and clear but PSR means it’s not a good idea. We get a few players in to fill the squad out but not push us on in terms of quality and it’ll hamper us later on where we have players we can’t sell and we won’t have the financial leeway to buy the best players. Better to go for quality buys and fill the bench with our young players for now.

Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)
Toon1984 replied to Miggys First Goal's topic in Football
Not sure why ManU would go for him when he said he wants Liverpool. Ekitike’ll take about a millisecond to decide between those two. Unless it’s Jim posturing in front of his supporters. I got carried away in all the excitement too but, in the clear light of day, this player has turned us down twice. It’s clear he’s not for us. The beeb says we’re turning attention to Wissa. With his age and likely role this seems a far more sensible and, by the way, very good option. -
A very nice lad - I hope he’s happy at Leeds because I don’t think he’d be happy at Newcastle anymore if he stayed.

Possibly but ManU isn’t perfect for him. He’s bound to want CL football. -

Surely this is just a smokescreen for the upcoming signing of DCL? -
PSG haven't been taken apart like this since that night at SJP.
-
By Murphy’s ‘this is the c*nt that’s taking my place’ body language, it looks real.
-
Anthony - Alexander - Anthony That would be an AAA rated attack.
-
Very true, Alan. Would we have seen a little dance from you if you had won it?
-
Eddie’ll be pushing the envelope if he manages to prove me wrong about DCL.
-
Is it just me or does everyone think that we shouldn’t be going after players who prioritize living in London over their football. Joao Pedro and now Kudus, can get TF as far as I’m concerned - wrong attitude.
-
I was about to post but lost my train of thought after that.
-
I’ll be honest. Thought he didn’t put a foot wrong playing last season. Obviously he’s not the most creative player but I’d be sorry if he left.
-
Aye. Bit of a lazy b*stard is our Eddie.
