Cronky
Similar issues to last week, I thought. The passing wasn't quite good enough in the midfield, and we had trouble holding the ball up front. BUT we drew a game that we could easily have lost and kept going through the difficult periods. I agree that Zoggy looks a real liability in defence. He looks very tentative when it comes to putting in challenges and always looked likely to lose the ball. Viduka had a bit more time and space and looked a bit better than last week. He also showed what he could do when he's able to turn his man and face the goal. I still don't think it happens enough though. I don't know why there's all these complaints about Smith. He looked the best passer of the ball in the midfield. A draw was fair on the balance of play, but we were a bit unlucky with the goals. The first was offside - although close - and the second fell just right for Arca.
Guest Andrew Flintoff
Just got back (via a beer or two in Town!) - thought we did alright like, not the best performance from us but we did enough to win I think and I was frustrated that we didn't. Frustratingly dull in the middle but Milner gave us options and Martins/Viduka did alright. The Zog looked good going forward but fannied out of tackles too much to stay as LB. Looking forward to having Enrique there. Anyway on the whole it's a game we would've lost last season and a point is about fair - we remain unbeaten with a decent home fixture coming up. Keep the faith.

I love Peter Ramage. He's just a great guy. I also think he is a very good player and a GREAT defender, and I can see him representing his country at all levels. Thus he should be immune from criticism. Now let's all light a fucking fire, join hands and sing songs, and tell tales of times past. Christ all fucking mighty. Give me strength. Newcastle Fan
My Ratings for today : Harper, 7 : Made some impressive saves but still conceaded two, got on my nerves with his time wasting late on. Carr, 5 : Thank fuck he's injured, maybe now we can get a decent right back Taylor ,6: was OK, thought he could've done better with Mido's goal Rozenhal,6: The one word we'll keep using to describe him: Solid N'Zogbia, 7: A fantastic goal, needs to play in a more forward role Butt,5 : Pretty poor imo, his passing was awful and as ever he was not helping us in any sort of way getting forward Smith,6: forgot he was in our team for a moment, but he'll get better Geremi,6: Nothing special Milner, 7: Again, a major threat down both wings, should try to get into shooting postions more often Martins, 6: Full of pointless running Viduka, 7: Was poor all day but scored a very well taken goal Subs: Ramage,4 : Thank fuck he's injured Cacapa, 7: Fantastic, solid and looked confident Owen, 6: Poor, needs more games Overall, we played poor and somehow managed to get a draw, we should really buy a creative player because as ever our midfielders couldn't pass or put a decent ball in for our forwards if it was to save thier lives. Guest fraser
Harper. 6. Couldn't have done any more than he did. Carr. 5. Impossible to say. N'Zogbia. 7. Truly excellent going forward, not a left-back but works hard at it. Rozenahl. 7. Reliable, speedy, good touch, almost elegant. Taylor. 6. Steady, in an erratic sort of way. Butt. 7. Mr. Reliable. Geremi. 7. Mr. Reliable with more talent. Milner. 8. This lad is good, very good. Provided width, decent crosses, skill on the ball and an out in times of need. Smith. 5. At sea in the first half, settled in the second. Viduka. 7. Mainly for his goal but improved in a 4-4-2. Martins. 5. £13m? Yes please. Owens 5. Clearly not fit. Cacapa 7. Dare I believe we have a class defender? Ramage. 4. In his defence not his favoured position, but it looked like it as well. We played better in this fixture last season I think, but we lost. This will take time and it was good to see that Sam had the courage to change it at half-time. Can't believe that they had so many empty seats. A pleasant day though. The Boro fans we spoke to after the match were friendly and they serve full pints at the ground.
Thespence
on fmttm the smoggies are organising a petition to the FA, to demand we play behind closed doors Boro have been playing behind closed doors for years or at least it looks that way. Guest mishka17
1. no creativity in midfield 2. strikers ain't recieving proper balls from 2nd line 3. lil bit shaky defence today-but improved since last season 4. geremi should replace carr on rb in coming games (when barton/emre 're gonna be fit)-we don't need 3 dm at one time
Parky
I think the right balance for 4-3-3 with the players we have in our squad would be: ----------------------------------Given------------------------ New Right Back---Cacapa-------Rozehnal-----Enrique -----------------Geremi---------------Emre------------------- -----------------------------Barton----------------------------- --------Duff-----------------Viduka----------N'Zogbia------- Obviously this means leaving Martins and Owen out of the team which will cause problems. It's up to Sam to find the right balance. Maybe train the players to play different formations and use them accordingly. 4-4-2 at home 4-3-3 (as above) away maybe. I think we have some good options though with everyone fit. That looks good Skeletor. Never be afraid to leave players out if it benefits the team. Gallowgate Toon
Geremi needs to start in the centre, and i think Barton will be his partner, Butt is dull and predictable and Smith has quality but can be inconsistant. Martins and Viduka imo is our best partnership as is Roz and Cacapa, Taylor RB or Solano and Zoggy left and Milner right with Enrique. That is our best team by a mile. Guest Knightrider
Thought Smith was shocking today, as bad a performance from any black and white midfielder, or rather as empty a performance, as I've seen in recent years. And before people start I like the lad and think he's a good player, although he's not a midfielder, but that was very poor stuff from Smith. Geremi was poor too and Butt wasn't much better. timnufc22
Milner & Geremi were poor, Butt did well sweeping up defensively, but Smith & Geremi didnt do much at all, didnt see either one of them bombing into the box. Play Capaca & Rozenhal and get them going as a partnership.
