Guest hindu times Posted September 11, 2007 Share Posted September 11, 2007 FROM NUFC.COM Defender trial claims Italian media sources are reporting that Brazilian-born defender José Marcelo Ferreira (pictured) is set to link up with Newcastle on a trial basis. The 34 year-old right -sided wing back is more commonly known as Zé Maria and has spent most of the last decade playing in Italy's Serie A, with spells at Parma, Perugia and Inter Milan - the latter alongside both Emre and Martins. Following a move to Levante in Spain last season, the former international is now a free agent, amid paper talk of interest from both Lazio and one of his former clubs, Parma. The cost of signing them can be offset by the significantly lower wages, and what they might lack in experience they can make up for in a desire to play for the club. Someone like Ze Maria as cover would only really be coming here for one reason and further reduces the chances of someone like Steven Taylor getting a game. Sounds about right. Would be suprised, although with Big Sam you can never tell. Sounds like he is well past his best, thats before having to adapt to the premier league.
