colinmk
Think he has stuck by his guns a wee bit too much. He is obviously a great manager, His Valencia side was great and he achieved excellent results with Liverpool over the years but his system has obviously not been working recently and he has failed to adapt to what was needed. 1878
Think it's all a bit harsh on Benitez tbh. One bad season really, that's all. It's going to have a huge knock on effect though, who'll Liverpool go for ? If I were them I would focus on doing everything I could for Martin O'Neill, that just seems like the right fit there, can't see Villa though letting him go without a fight. O'Neil I would absolutely love him to get the job there, they would stagnate at best.
ElDiablo
They should go for Pelligrini, but I think it'll end up being Hodgson.

Super Duper Branko Strupar
Benitez has bought poorly and too often. He'd have done better on a more restricted budget because he wouldn't be able to ruin a team with rubbish buys.

He'd have done better on a more restricted budget because he wouldn't be able to ruin a team with rubbish buys. Eh? What is this team he's ruined? He's bought Reina, Mascherano, Torres, Alonso, Agger. Rafa's purchases were not the cause of the problems. He could have bought better, but he didn't do badly. Interpolic
Yeah how many of the 768 were good? 8? Does this make the score Parky 765 Benitez 10? Or is that too logical a leap?
Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Haha for all the shit we got for having the badly spelt bedsheet, thats nothing compared to the dumb Scousers burning shit outside of the Stadium in protest.

He's made a few really good signings, but how many out of the 76 were good? Almost all of them were good. The problem is, we needed great signings to be able to realistically compete with Chelsea and Man Utd. He hardly made any massive howlers, the Keane and Aquilani transfers being the biggest, recouping his outlay on almost every player that moved on. The only manager with a significantly better record is Wenger.

Looked like he was taking them on a spectacular downward spiral. Hopefully they manage to find a horrific replacement.

Pretty sure he was on a list Benitez gave to the board, he may not have been first choice on that list, but, he wanted him and gave the go ahead to sign him nonetheless. The early signings were good, and obviously not all are bad, and Torres is just Torres, but he always seemed to buy one or two players that were pointless. Vorinin Babel Keane Riera Lucas Penant to name a few. There just seems to be far to high a turnover of players, and over 200 purchases in 6 years. I think one of the most damning things is the lack of any youth coming out of the club in the 6 years he was in charge. Even the youth he purchased he never developed and ended up being wasted talent.
