Mole_Toonfan
They have been sort of sussed out now anyway, which is why Barca have gone back to more "conventional" methods and Messi's gone back to playing on the right.
Ronaldo
I think with a better partner you could get another season out of him. Totally agree! There is no point in debating Colo with Ron as it's blatantly obvious that the curly-haired one has bummed his pet dog or budgie! More to do with the fact I don't like gutless error-prone cowards captaining my football club.
AY
I thought shuttler was perfectly sensible word for a certain role? Someone that plays a bit like box to box midfielder, Italy NT used them frequently.
Ndegwa
Cole wasn't a penalty box striker? For us? He f***ing lived there man, the Premier League charged the poor f***er rent. Was he f***. He was always involved in play deeper back. Howay man, false number 9? Its bullshuttler Watch like 90% of his goals man. Les lived in the box. Not sure how this ended up with Les Ferdinand, but I remember he scored a goal with his arse from closer to the half way line than the opposing goal vs Dmitri Kharine. Man's a legend. The College Dropout
False 9 is a role in a system, not a type of player. Agreed, unless a specialist. Totti was a false 9 before Messi in recent memory. Bergkamp was a #10. Pirlo is a Regista/deep lying midfielder. Inside forward is another top position that's made a comeback. The College Dropout
I wouldn't have Colo anywhere near the team. Of the senior CBs we've got I'd only start him ahead of Williamson. I wouldn't quite give up on him under McClaren, a defensive coach whose game-plan is based on defence, possession and being compact and functional. I think Colo could perform quite well under McClaren and his methods. He's a busted flush though, he has been poor for 2-3 seasons now. I'd personally keep him, but would rather we replaced him in the starting 11. Sounds like a bad idea for a Newcastle manager at SJP.

Andy Cole wasn't a penalty box striker? You may as well say that Inzaghi was never offside, it's that ludicrous.
Guest firetotheworks
The difference between the false 9 and the number 10 is canny simple really. If you use two players together as an example....let's say Beardsley and Cole...imagine that Cole did Beardsley's job and Beardsley was playing somewhere else deeper. That's it, end of example. It's that simple.

Ronaldo
You won't get a more perfect partnership in terms of benefit to both players than Beardsley and Cole, like. Close to 70 goals between them that first season up. Just fucking dreamy.

The College Dropout
I believe a right sided central shuttler is Sissoko's best position. He's best in a real midfield 3 but not as a #10. Lacks discipline to be in any kind of midfield 2 imo

The College Dropout
If the word is so offensive - I mean Sissoko's best attributes are stamina, pace & power. But he needs space to run into so he has to start from a fairly deep position. Sissoko is useful in wide areas but is perhaps a little restricted to just making vertical runs up and down. If Colback is a must then: Colback Sissoko Wijnaldum As the default 3. We could go with a diamond with De Jong at the tip then play 2 up front. Or Perez - Cabella each side of Mitrovich. A more flat and boxy formation.. 4-4-1-1 would need Sissoko outwide to work and that limits his game imo.
