Decky
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7090961.stm Interesting points, even though the number 54 seems like a random estimate What do yous think? could it work? will we be apart of it should it happen? do you want us to be? Fugazi
Agreed, would be a terrible idea. Would they expect fans to travel all over Europe every other week?
Wullie
Agreed, would be a terrible idea. Would they expect fans to travel all over Europe every other week? I think fans who actually go to the games are last on the priority list. It's an idea entirely garnered towards glory-hunting wankers and armchair arseholes, the type of people who "love footy" but don't support anyone. Dunno about anyone else but I couldn't give two fucks about Lyon vs Milan.
Guest gggg
It wouldn't take off if it ever happened. Domestic football will always rule and the glory hunters would just jump on the new Premier League champions rather than Arsenal sitting mid table in a euro league playing meaningless games against Roma, It would turn big clubs like Celtic and Porto into the equivalent of Boro. Decky
I was talking to a mate about this, hes a Celtic fan and hes blinded by the fact that his league is fucking dogs breath. He thinks the Euro league would be amazing and would generate huge money and audiences. However i disagree, i told him that a Euro league would be huge for about 3 years max. After about 3 years the teams in the Euro league will find it hard to get world class players, players wont want to go to Liverpool if they are finishing 6th in their league and never winning anything. World class players would however love to go to the likes of Newcastle, Spurs etc, teams who will be winning silverware in their countries without the bigger clubs. Therefore after a few years teams like Newcastle and Spurs will be able to attract good quality and will become better than the likes of Liverpool finishing mid table in their super league. In the end the Euro league will be great for a few seasons but after a while it will become just like any other league in that there will be a small number of teams vastly greater than the rest, the rest will become boring mid table nothing sides and then they will regret their move to that league. The league will also have fuck all to play for, one league and one cup where as in the domestic leagues we have one league, 2 domestic cups and a European cup. If it happened it would be a huge kick up the arse to the glory hunting scum, it would be hilarious for the likes of us to sit back and watch and to go on and have a great chance of alot of success here. Slightly off topic but there is a team from Vladivostok in the Russian Premier League (or whatever its called) these days, imagine drawing them in the Waffa Cup. Be a 20hr flight there and back or something horrendous.
ross magoo
The Old Firm have been beating their drum about getting into the EPL or forming a European league for years. Here's the news, NOBODY FUCKIN WANTS YOU

If such a league were made 60 strong, rather than the usual suggestion of 18 or so, us and Spurs would definitely be in it. It would be the Derbys and Portsmouths that get left behind. You wonder whether the owners of clubs would have the sense to see glory is relative. As you say, "3rd Division Play-Off contenders" SV Hamburg doesn't sound quite so interesting. Owners, particularly of the new breed, might not care if the financial structure of the league sees all participants just get smaller shares of what would be a much larger cake, however. In addition, a new league might choose to go down the Socialist American route where failure is rewarded with better players for the next season. Guest Mucky01
scots want euro league, reason: other than rangers & celtic games most SPL attendences are less than 5,000. Gretna are in SPL! If the scots want more competittion then fans who live outside Glasgow should stop supporting rangers or celtic and support their local teams. If the scots want more competittion then fans who live outside Glasgow should stop supporting rangers or celtic and support their local teams. Celtic and Rangers should also stop hoarding talent in the Scottish league, they buy what seems to me a lot of players from the likes of Hibs, Hearts, Dundee Utd with the intention of hoarding them so no-one else can benefit from having them. See Derek Riordan, Steven Naismith as examples

Guest Mucky01
dont worry about it as long as EPL have sky deal and Spain, Italy, Germany have their own mega ££ tv deals it will not happen. Only for kak countries who want/need it that at present rely on champions league money i.e. scotland, portugal, etc want it.
Chase
I'd hate it if this happened and I can't get my head around why 54 or 60 teams, it just seems like a nothing number.
