Tooj
Probably because he will more than likely be available, likes Allardyce and we could attract him. Its always the way though Melan, look at this Arshavin fella who most probably have barely seen play but is on their list of players we should buy in January. It's.*
Skirge
Wasted when played wide right, although he does put in a canny cross.
Syrette
Probably because he will more than likely be available, likes Allardyce and we could attract him. Yeah I know, and it's understandable to an extent but the way some go on about him here it's as if he really is the only choice.
Guest RowanB
Martin's is a bit like a black ketsbaia. Head down most of the times and runs into trouble more often than not. Until he becomes more aware and is able to use the ball constructively, he'll never be a top player. Well he wouldn't be a white Ketsbaia would he? lol
Guest
Actually thought he had a shocker today, and wasn't convinced with the "will I hit it with my left or right?" routine in his run up for the penalty.

Agreed, which was a shame as he looked good against Arsenal and especially at Blackburn.
Skirge
I thought he hit a poor pen when I was at the match but he dd'nt, seeign it on TV he hit it hard and to the corner it was a cracking attempt to save it by the keeper that ma e it appear a poor pen.. Want the best from Oba then do not play him wide right!!

Yorkie
Aye don't think he was brilliant yesterday, but he's playing well lately and scoring. I think he'll score again before Christmas break.

Ember
It is gonna be hard with out him in January Yeah it'll leave a big void in the team tbh. Especially given (as previously stated) that Viduka and Smith aren't scoring anywhere near enough goals. In fact Smith hasn't got a league goal yet, has he? Taylor Swift
Martins is currently way more valuable than Owen is given the way the formation we play, the players available to Sam and his general fitness/ability to stay fit for a long time. Owen has the potential to be really valuable, but it's going to take time because we need new players and Sam needs to change his approach. That isn't gonna happen any time soon. Owen also needs better wing play, more movement from his teammates and probably a creative midfielder to thread him those balls. Of course, it'd also be nice for Viduka to be able to remain fit for more than 2 weeks at a time so he has a partner who can hold up the ball really well. Those are the things that Owen currently needs to be able to become fully effective. On the other hand, Martins doesn't need any of that. Of course, he has many weaknesses but at this moment of time, he's our best bet for a goal because he can literally create one from nowhere. Also, he offers us pace, something sorely lackin from the team atm, and something that he'll make defences such as Fulham's and Derby's pay for. Any more tinkering and fitting the formation around Owen will result in the disjointed performances you saw against Reading, Sunderland etc. With Martins, Sam can stick to what he knows best and it seems it's working. Guest alex
Good post from Apisith there. Not totally convinced by Martins by any means but he's easily our most dangerous forward in terms of a goal threat at present. Good pen on Saturday too. TRon
Good post from Apisith there. Not totally convinced by Martins by any means but he's easily our most dangerous forward in terms of a goal threat at present. Good pen on Saturday too. That's it in a nutshell really. I would be the first to say Martins is not as good a striker as Anelka who would be the ideal prototype for Allardyce's 4-3-3 formation. Landing strikers of that calibre is not easy at all though, so I get fed up of listening to people whingeing about Martins being a headless chicken, or having a gash first touch etc. We are actually quite fortunate to have a striker with: a) pace b) good skill c) decent aeriel threat d) good shooting ability e) ability to play wide f) a good fitness record g) goals! it could be a lot worse.
