The College Dropout
Difference between Martins and Bramble is Bramble actually cost us goals. Martins may miss some he should score but his goal to minute ratio here must be pretty good. He'll probably be our top scorer again this season. dilligaf
Couldn't this have been mentioned the match thread? Not going to get half the reaction in there though is he? ujpest doza
Martins was gash Head down and run unaware of whats going on around him and never held his position on the right either showing a lack of discipline.
Guest Sniffer
Martin's is a bit like a black ketsbaia. Head down most of the times and runs into trouble more often than not. Until he becomes more aware and is able to use the ball constructively, he'll never be a top player.
The College Dropout
Showed some awareness when he let the ball run through to Taylor. Definitely not "gash".

Tbh, anyone can step over a ball if they get a shout. He awareness is horrendous and it's ridiculous to suggest otherwise.
Yorkie
I'm trying to decide whether or not to reply to the opening post. It's such a typical, harsh, ironic (what with 'thick' being in the title), i can't decide whether it's a wind-up or not. Fuck it, i will anyway. To criticise him so harshly when he was being marked by two of the best centre-backs in the league (if not Europe, especially atm) - whilst playing on the wing anyway, is simply unfair. As has been said, Smith had a good game but his flick-ons were hardly masterful, and it's not like Martins made no attempt to win the ball. He simply couldn't, A - because the flick-on wasn't accurate, or B - one of Toure or Gallas had him covered cutting inside. Martins deserves a lot of credit cos he could have stayed like that for the entire match. But it was just the first half; as the second half developed, he knew he was getting nowhere so came deep to help out - in-particular Beye and Milner. Fucking wrong calling him thick when he's playing out-wide when he's a central player, yet putting in such a 'helpful' performance regardless of this against a fucking good team. He didn't play badly either! He took one too many touches, that's about it. But he battled fucking hard, won the ball, offered himself and spread the play to the wings, etc. Get a grip ffs. He's not the most intelligent striker around and he's still a bit raw but to call him 'thick as mince', is a bit fucking ironic.
johnnypd
nice argument there, "i'm right and anything else is ridiculous". it's obvious that saying his awareness is atrocious is overblown, if it was that bad he wouldnt be a footballer. it's more accurate an analysis to say he is hit and miss, sometimes it is pretty good, for instance anticipating passes over the top that has put him in many good positions this season like the man city goal or peeling away into space and delivering a first time cross for owen, or again against west ham, drifting wide, delaying the pass until he spots n'zogbia's run and then rolling a perfect pullback for an easy tap in. he hit one looping crossfield pass to milner or barton's toes on wednesday that was timed to perfection and took about 4 arsenal players out of the game. other times he puts his head down and tries to take on everyone himself or hits it from distance when there is a more simpler option open, or he fails to anticipate a pass being made and ends up too far off the pace of the ball. he's a mix of the good and bad, not exclusively one or the other. Criticism of Martins is yet another example of Newcastle fans thinking above their station. There's room for constructive criticism of every player - with Martins it often goes way beyond that. Just who the fuck do these idiots think is going to step in and replace him so easily at the click of a finger?

Yorkie
Aye, i reckon a goal against Brum will set him off on a nice little run before Christmas, what with Derby to come soon, too.
Alberto2005
Martins is the best thing for the club since Shearer quitted, just give him time to settle in England and he will be enormous for us. "Quitted" Sorry
Alberto2005
you know what, tomorrow you will begin to use norwegian as second language, you educate yourself at the same speed as we do with english, and then we will see in about 10 years how well you write and speak norwegian, deal? Considering that not many nations actually speak the language i don't think i'll be learning it.
Ronaldo
kin ell lads, how many times is this gonna become an issue, the guy used the wrong word, so fucking what? BONTEMPI
I don't think he's daft he's just not being utilised as he should! sixx
Alan Smith has his best game without doubt and comanded the airial encounters winning more than his fair share of flick ons - Martins, the thick t*** never even tried to position himself once to recieve the flick on. One glaring example was the throw in that went straight across the 6 yard box brilliantly won by Smith and thick boy nowhere near getting onto it. Hope he's been told the error of his ways for tomorrow who the fuck do you really think you are calling him a thick twat for not recieving some random flick-ons from smith? some people on this forum are quite amazing... Guest eyikoda
he was playing as a winger(maybe u didn't notice) and he was being marked by two of the best centre-backs in the league u probably don't know sh** about soccer!
TRon
Actually those criticising Martins as thick or gash are right. We must drop him from today's line up and play Torres up front. A far superior striker, surely no one can argue. This is constructive criticism, since not only have I pointed out Martins weakness's I have also provided a solution unlike other critics in this thread.
