We should def need to talk Hiddink he is above the rest and what we are looking. I hope some one does that in the option of doing his Russian job until the euro 2008. He is the only person I could relay with from all the person that are mentioned in the past couple of days.

Without his Champions League Final appearance, his record doesn't look too impressive.

 well said. Let's just ignore the CL final appearance.

I see your final and raise you Boumsong.

(Sorry to be a soppy get, but I wouldn't want someone running this club that wouldn't have give us a second thought in his playing career.)

That is one of the genuinely, outright fucking stupidest things I have EVER heard on here. And i've read Gasuso's posts, and Parky's "we can be above Arsenal and fighting for 4th" craziness.

You shouldn't really consider a foreign manager who hasn't won his own league. The whole point of getting a foreigner is that they have the experience of winning something. I guess Deschamps would be better then Hughes but I think this is more a martin jol type foreign appointment, rather then a Sven or Mourinho esque signing. Van Gaal is far superior tbh.

Its hardly a Jol appointment..  Jol was an almost unknown 48 year old who had been managing for 13 years winning one cup in the process before taking over Spurs.  Deschamps is considered one of the brightest up and coming managers in Europe and has won more then Jol, and taken a club to the Champions League final, at the age of only 39.

Not that Jol was a bad appointment for Spurs mind ;)

Im of the mindset that Newcastle is a mid table team/uefa cup challenger at this very moment. I think that in order to make the next step we need a really ambitious appointment (coupled with a sizeable transfer fund, but I'm assuming that a new manager would be given this). While I think that Deschamps or Jol for that matter could get us the Uefa cup place I don't think they can progress this club to a Champions league challenger, which should be what we are looking for. What we need in order to compete at that level is a manager with the experience of winning. I think Deschamps would be an adequate appointment but i'm unsure of his ability to take us to that level. I would much prefer a proven winner like Van Gaal.

Why shouldn't he be able to get us to the Champions League given time?  He has experience of being in the Champions League and indeed took Monaco to the final in 2004.  He's also won trophies in the short time he's been in management.  Whatever you think of wanting Van Gaal its extremely unlikely, and doesn't change the fact that Deschamps is almost nothing like Jol..

I voted unsure on the poll. I said I don't think hes proven he can take a team like ours to a champions league place. All im saying as that if we go foreign (like we probably should) I would prefer a proven winner. Although I do agree that Van Gaal may be a little unrealistic. I know that Deschamps managed in the Champions league (this is why I would accept him before someone like Hughes or Jol) but I think that getting into a champions league spot in the French league is not comparable to doing it in England. The Jol comparison is to do with the impact that I would expect from Deschamps.

Deschamps - Class.

A masterstroke if Morticia gets this one in the bag.

So they wouldn't have failed the first test after all then?

No they've failed the first test clearly.

This is now the second test.

The first test being replacing a manager with some decorum  and planning and at a time beneficial to the club.

They did the second part, every extra game under Fat Sam was damaging us more.

Deschamps eh?

Mort wants:

Stylish football- As manager of Monaco and Juventus he provided good flowing football, assuming he would do that here it's a tick.

Youth side of the club- I haven't a clue about his youth policies but he is french ;)

Language- Not only english but spanish, italian and french too

Big club, big pressure- Juve is a bigger club than us and the expectation when he took over was massive. Took monaco to the champions league final, which means he has experianced managerial pressure as well as big game pressure.

What other positives are there?

He's young and is already moderately successful (medal wise)

He's arogant/ ethical enough to walk out on two massive clubs

He has some knowledge on english football because of his season here

He has european experiance manager wise

He has a varied knowledge on european players (contacts)

Where as Parky is sulking because he didn't think we would get a top manager even though he wanted Allardyce over Sven in the Summer. :cheesy:
