Good news if true - new deal for oba!

OBAFEMI MARTINS has been offered a bank-busting £26million deal to sign up for Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle revolution until 2013.

The Nigerian striker, 23, still has 3½ years of his current deal to run but is wanted by Inter Milan, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester City.

So new Toon boss Keegan has moved to keep hold of the former Inter star.

Toon owner Mike Ashley has sanctioned a two-year extension to Martins’ contract and a 50 per cent wage rise to £90,000-a-week.

As part of the deal Martins has agreed to forfeit a £13m release clause.

He said: “These are exciting times and I want to stay.”

Martins’ contract is being negotiated by Chris Nathaniel of NVA management, whose clients include Rio Ferdinand and Micah Richards. He also arranged the £1m deal for John Terry’s autobiography.

Steven Taylor is also ready to sign a new deal after rejecting a five-year contract in September.

Think its a good idea to be honest, 90k is a huge amount of money and he's not worth it but we havea player who is 23 and has a max value of £13m as it stands, if we get 2 good years out of him he'll be worth double that and the contract pays itself.

Funny the Sun comes out with that when KK have said all contract talks were on the back burner until things settle down. The papers dont give a fuck about facts anymore, they just make shite up. Imo the beano got more credibility than the papers.

The £13m clause needs to go. Not sure that the £90pw can be justified, though... mind you, it's probably all bollocks. Why would The Sun of all papers know the details of a Newcastle player's potential contract?

I don't  believe for a second The Sun knows owt about how much he'll be getting though, and even if they do, they'd still add another 40k or whatever to make it more sensational.

Either you have a very low oppinion of Martins or you mean £90,000pw.  £90pw sounds more like Shola money.

Sounds like a load of bollocks. Keegan wants to extend the contract of and pay so much money to someone he's never even seen train? Okay.

It's in the Sun, and it lets fools quote ridiculous, big player values for a very mediocre footballer.

So it HAS to be true!!!!11!!tbh
