The Nigerian striker, 23, still has 3½ years of his current deal to run but is wanted by Inter Milan, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester City. So new Toon boss Keegan has moved to keep hold of the former Inter star. Toon owner Mike Ashley has sanctioned a two-year extension to Martins’ contract and a 50 per cent wage rise to £90,000-a-week. As part of the deal Martins has agreed to forfeit a £13m release clause. He said: “These are exciting times and I want to stay.” Martins’ contract is being negotiated by Chris Nathaniel of NVA management, whose clients include Rio Ferdinand and Micah Richards. He also arranged the £1m deal for John Terry’s autobiography. Steven Taylor is also ready to sign a new deal after rejecting a five-year contract in September. fredbob Posted January 25, 2008 Share Posted January 25, 2008 Think its a good idea to be honest, 90k is a huge amount of money and he's not worth it but we havea player who is 23 and has a max value of £13m as it stands, if we get 2 good years out of him he'll be worth double that and the contract pays itself.
