The prostitutes of football

Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich etc that is.

Supporting these teams, as glory seekers in their respective countries do, must be akin to seeking fulfilment from the services of a paid escort and never feeling the  happiness or pain and the ups and downs of a genuine relationship.

Those who "choose" these teams know they'll always look good, deliver the goods and provide instant satisfaction, never having to suffer the anguish and tribulations of a long term marriage to a real football team.

I hope we get behind our team like never before on Saturday, showing what true support is about, and come what may we know it's better to be in a relationship like ours than the one those in the away end have with their team.

Yeah, bollocks to 'em.  It so easy to say "Yeah, I support Man Utd.  Oh look, we won again." and qualify it with "I like the way they play" or "My Mum's from Manchester."  Yeah, so mine and she hates those red twats for stealing all of Bury's players when she was a kid.

I think anyone we picked up during Keegans first term who wasn't serious about it will have fucked us off by now to be honest.  If they came here glory hunting and stuck through the last three reigns of shite I reckon they've earned their stripes by now.

That's a brilliant way to put it.

I can't understand their way of thinking. There's no attachment to the club, it's just a case of supporting a team that's winning. For me, if you're a glory hunter, you're not experiencing football to its fullest.

I can sit here for hours complaining about Newcastle United, not finding many positives to say about the club, but knowing it's my team, our team, the people who live up here have an attachment to it and can feel the magic of the place.

There's more lows than highs but when the highs come around it's all the more worth it.

Anyone who chooses to support a club other than the one of the place they are form is as bad as anyone mentioned above.

So, you're favourite singer must be Sting then. And you class Mr. Bean way above Monty Phyton, right?!?! Thats just ridicolous...

That comparison really doesn't work.  You don't support entertainers, you appreciate their entertainment.

We've always been a club with a lot of soul Stephen, still are.

Not many trophies but plenty of soul. The opposite of the team we play on Saturday I guess ?

I know you're wumming, but i was just thinking of what kind of a person i'd be if i was a Scarborough Town fan. It's a weird feeling; just what would you do if your team disappeared? Doesn't even bare thinking about. ???

Manchester must have been the largest city in the world, by population, in about the 1930's-1950's, if they are to be believed.

On a serious note, my dad was born in Manchester, and his parents moved up here when he was 3. He has always supported Newcastle and stood on the Leazes when he was a lad. As far as he is concerned he is Newcastle through and through. He has no affinity for any team in Manchester. I am amazed that people from Surrey, Kent even frigging Hartlepool(cos I am sure I saw a Hartlepool reds banner at SJP last year) support Man U and travel all that way to watch them.

i have full respect for true supporters of man utd, bayern etc - but not the glory seekers.

I can see where you're coming from, however one lad I know supports Man Utd 'cos his dad does.  And his dad does 'cos his uncle (the lads great uncle) is a manc.

Daft when I first heard the theory.  However credit to the lad's dad (I hope you're following this) for not following in his own fathers footsteps and lowering himself to being a mackem.

Still though, no spine and common sense to think "well, why not support Newcastle"

Just read about an Iranian immigrant who moved here from Tehran 7 years ago and loves the city so much he's just changed his name from Ali Reza Sarkhofh to Peter Newcastle.  Is he allowed to support the toon?  It didn't say if he's pogoed yet.

I coul probably play for my local team if I wanted, so you'll forgive me for finding someone else to focus my support on.

Does this make me an evil gloryhunter then, Northern Monkey?

Evil, yes.  Gloryhunter  bluelaugh.gif

While I agree with every word, and agree with the support - it must be at a team that isnt going to collapse like a tower of cards at the first set-back.

Sadly, this lot does it EVERY GAME.

I had to get back into manchester city centre after the 6-0, and was on a packed tram with Man Utd fans from the game, it was near silence - was unbelivable the lack of excitment etc after seeing there team win 6-0, That really made me realise how plastic these fans are.
