I took great pleasure in watching crowds of Spuds buying their tops in their, knowing they were putting money in Mike's pockets. It was some consolation for Woodgate/Modric! I seem to recall reading that as well -- that Mr. Ashley has a good amount of stock in Umbro, hence he took a double-hit on the lack of England merchandising this summer. On the plus side, he gets extra out of all the clubs that have Umbro kits in the league/leagues. I think this fact was also once used as an interesting argument about why Ashley would keep Michael Owen -- who is also sponsored by Umbro, to the tune of 1 mil a year according to that article. I'm not sure I ever understood how that translated to the Newcastle transfer market but...eh. I rarely understand the press.
