Guest
Thing with this is, it's like there's a 20 year vacuum. From mid 70s, to mid 90s, barring a few exceptions (Keegan, Waddle, Gazza & Beardsley), none would get anywhere near an "all-time greatest" side. Can't see many people under 30 naming any non-Premiership era players outside of those four.
Disco
OT/ I always Darren Peacock was criminally underrated during his spell here. Considering he often was our only defender we could've done a lot worse.
Guest fraser
can understand you younger lads choosing Beye mind, he's the best we've had for a canny few years. Not just the younger ones. A very, very close run thing with Nattrass who I remember in a cup match away at Coventry, running towards his own goal heading a good cross by them about thirty yards up the field; athletic and skilful. But I look at Beye and on balance think he's the better of the two.
Tooj
OT/ I always Darren Peacock was criminally underrated during his spell here. Considering he often was our only defender we could've done a lot worse. Aye, especially for the stick he got at times as well.
Cronky
McFaul Nattrass Woodgate Moncur Kennedy Lee Green Gascoigne Waddle Shearer Beardsley Whenever this question comes up, I feel frustrated that we haven't had better defenders. Typical media portrayal of Newcastle defender/defence being shite. 1995-1997 our defence conceded less than the Man U title winning defences which were so highly though of. NE5
can understand you younger lads choosing Beye mind, he's the best we've had for a canny few years. Top class isn't he? aye, I'd say that Nattrass, Craig, Venison and Beye are the best 4 I've seen

Shak
------------------Given Beye -- Woodgate -- Albert -- Beresford ------- Solano ---- Lee --- Ginola ------------------ Beardsley ------------ Shearer ----- Ferdinand Surprised to see so many people including Robert over Ginola tbh. I'd much rather have a Ginola, someone you could count on to get involved and give you a bit of quality pretty much every game. With Robert it was all too often a case of watching him do absolutely nothing for most of the game, praying for that something special to happen. His stats are probably better than Ginola's, but his overall quality wasn't for me. No middle ground with him, it was all or nothing.

danny_nufc
Suprised noones got Stuart Pearce in at left back, past his best when he played for us but still quality. Id have him in for his leadership as much as anything. Surely better than Bernard, especially with the lack of defending Ginola/Robert did.
macca888
I hate to to say this, but NE5's team is pretty damn good. However, I think I would be making a couple of changes in defence. I would have Moncur instead of Burton and Alan Kennedy instead of Clark. I would have found a place for Bryan "Pop" Robson on the bench. I am pleased NE5 included the best player I have ever seen in a black and white shirt...........Tony Green.
Tsunami
I realise it is difficult to get Shearer & Supermac in the same side but for those off us who saw Supermac play - how do you leave him out?
Cronky
I realise it is difficult to get Shearer & Supermac in the same side but for those off us who saw Supermac play - how do you leave him out? Quite easily, really. There's only room for one centre forward, and Shearer was miles better. Beardsley would have been his ideal strike partner, and it's a shame they weren't together at their peak. Supermac had pace and power, but not much finesse, as I recall.
Guest
I'm surprised so many would pick Robert over Ginola. Why? Ginola had more technical ability yes, but Robert's actual end product p*sses on Ginola's.
