Pre-season friendlies at SJP: Rangers (set to be called off) and Valencia

I was hoping the club would have got us into a tournament abroad somewhere rather than the usual shite pre season.

Hardly think anyone would have thought to invite us with a couple of months left in the season. Dont think a championship side going over the Dam or wherever is going to sell loads of tickets!!!

I always love those battles... against a side worthy of being scottish champions!

The battles on the pitch or the ones between Celtic fans and pub windows, in between singing songs in praise of Al Quaeda?

Sick of inviting the old firm down.

Couldn't agree more.

I'd prefer Darlington Carlisle and Hartlepool before those two

Well said - Celtic are no better than Rangers - worse in some ways as you've noted.

Fact we spanked Celtic 4-1 said volumes imo. Get a team that will attract fans and could build potential links with.

My guess for a replacement of Rangers would be either PSV, Ajax or Feyenoord. The reason behind this is because it's an easy traveling route from Hollland over here for their fans.

Newcastle To Participate In Majorca Tournament

Friday June 6th, 2008 by Ed Harrison· 44 Comments

It’s being reported today that Newcastle United will participate in a pre-season tournament in Majorca, as part of their preparation for what promises to be an important Premier League season.

Newcastle are busy completing arrangements before formally announcing their involvement in the tournament, although organizers say that it’s already a done deal.

Newcastle will join hosts Real Mallorca, and German Bundesliga teams Hertha Berlin and Hannover 96 in the Summer International Cup in Majorca.

The tournament will take place in early August, with the semi-finals on August 1st, and the final on August 3rd.

Hannover 96 are said to be late replacements for Manchester City, who had to cancel their plans for Majorca, when they qualified for the UEFA Cup through the Fair Play League at the end of last season.

Newcastle have not yet revealed any plans for the pre-season, but Kevin hinted towards the end of last season, he would be taking his team away for some games.

Ylan Singer, is one of the organizers of the competition, and said today:

    “It is all official.”

“Newcastle United will be going to Majorca along with Hertha Berlin and Hannover 96 for the competition with Real Mallorca, which will take place in the Ono Stadium.”

“The two semi-finals will be on August 1, with the final and the game for third and fourth place two days later.”

“We are now talking to both the German clubs and Newcastle about the distribution of tickets and details will be available soon.”

Do you actually take the results of friendlies serious?  They are nothing more than a warm up..

Yes but it s always nice to have a challenge, or a team that will try, Celtic didn't look fucked.
