James
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/article4258468.ece Kevin Keegan has made Jonás Gutiérrez, the Argentina player, the first significant signing of his second spell in charge at Newcastle United. It has not taken long for the winger who is also known as “Spiderman”, to spin a web of intrigue after it emerged that he is the subject of an £11.9 million compensation claim from his former club. Yeah, it is on their official site after he confirmed his departure yesterday.

Sure we must have checked all avenues first mind.

Sure we must have checked all avenues first mind. I'm sure there were teams that tried challenging the Bosman ruling when other players tried taking advantage of it. Fact is, Mallorca don't have a leg to stand on, I doubt they have been following the nuances of the Webster case, and as a consequence have probably been caught by suprise, hence the compo claim. Wouldn't you be pissed off if you could have sold a player for £7m in January, only for him to piss of somewhere else for £2m in July? I sympathise with Mallorca, but I think NUFC have had this one worked out good and proper, and as a consequence, the inflated transfer market is verging on collapse. Sorry, but I do feel that this is a historic moment for football that clubs are starting to use this method to recruit players. For instance, Gerrard and Carragher can leave Liverpool for £12m next summer. Would have been double that for Gerrard previously.
