Dave
-----------------Given----------------- Beye----Coloccini---Faye--Enrique Guttierez---Barton/Guthrie---Duff ----Owen-----Viduka----Martins---- That actually looks alright as an ideal team if they could get it going. I'd prefer to put Barton back on the left though instead of Duff, and play Guthrie in the middle. Hopefully we'll sign an automatic starter to go in there though, and the backups are a worry. number09
Whilst I am more than concerned about lack of depth in the squad (Man Utd can beat whoever they like with their 3rd string in pre-season, seemingly), I thought to myself who would be my first choice 11 next year? -----------------Given----------------- Beye----Coloccini---Faye--Enrique Guttierez---Barton/Guthrie---Duff ----Owen-----Viduka----Martins---- Therefore, my second XI would be: ------------------Harper------------------ Taylor----Bassong---Cacapa---Edgar Milner-----Butt-----Guthrie----N'Zogbia ------------Carroll---Donaldson---------- Makes you think about who we had on the pitch tonight, really. I think the first eleven seem to be a good choice but a bit lightweight in midfield - no cover for defence apart from Guthrie/Barton. From the attacking point of view the best selection - owen to drop deeper, viduka for the holding role upfront, martins "the unpredictable"
KaKa
Taylor and Milner are just unbelievably poor. I'm glad more people are beginning to see this. These guys cost us games at both ends of the pitch. They are consistently poor and at their very best are very average. It's ridiculous. I couldn't be happier about Bassong and Guthrie. Two players who have barely cost a couple of million and they are already standing out in our team and are showing that they will definitely be an improvement on a lot of the layers we already have. Huge credit to the recruitment team for Bassong and Guthrie who a lot were so worried about. Looking very promising for those two young guys. Honestly, the performances of Bassong and Guthrie have pretty much shown that with a couple of million we could easily replace Taylor and Milner with better quality and it's embarrassing. Especially as those two with all their unjustified hype could probably net us at least £10 million. It's a joke. Milner really seems to have gone backwards, maybe he has half an eye on leaving or summat. Hmmmm ... honestly I've never really seen what people see in the guy. I love his dedication and commitment, but he is very average. I really feel he is more of a championship standard player. Could never see him being a first team player in the premier league. ChrisMcQuillan
-----------------Given----------------- Beye----Coloccini---Faye--Enrique Guttierez---Barton/Guthrie---Duff ----Owen-----Viduka----Martins---- Definitely don't mind that starting eleven at all, but I'd use Harper instead of Given to be honest. He has not set a foot wrong since coming in to take over from Given. That's probably fair, they're pretty interchangable in my mind. Nice to have both of them. We are blessed with keepers since Krul and Forster both look promising.

Liam Liam Liam O
and Taylor wanted £50K... which ever fucker put him on 35k shud be hanged i was told he actually said 60k at first What a load of bollocks. Seriously he had a bad game tonight but lets keep it realistic, and try and keep away from the sort of s**** that the press have been inflating Barton's wages with. why do you think it took 1 year to sort out and remember it was his dad as agent Oh well it must be true then mate why would you even be surprised? Taylor blatantly thinks he's some f***ing superstar thanks to the mongs and the Analing of Oliver when he's actually s**** So that makes it true as well? Fuck it, I heard he asked for £80k a week in that case. Clueless some people on here, absolutely clueless.

ChrisMcQuillan
To be fair to Duff, he's been the ONLY player we've had in pre-season initiating dangerous, attacking runs and actually beating the man. He can also cross again. Definitely him over Milner/N'Zogbia. Perhaps in a 4-3-3 Barton could flourish on the left, but if we do opt for 4-4-2 then he'd definitely be left wing for me on current form. It's not scintillating, but relatively speaking he's playing like Cantona in a Craggy Island All-Priests Over-75 Indoor Football Challenge Match team. Menace
Much rather give N'Zogbia 5 games on the trot rather than play Duff for 3-4 games and he gets cropped and he'll take about 5 games again to get back to full fitness.

It's just how lowly I rate Taylor and Milner. I don't see flashes of anything in them that makes me think hang on a minute there might be something there. I just don't. I understand where your coming from as far as not getting carried away, but I already see so much more promise in these two new signings. Guthrie clearly has so much composure and thought behind his play, somethng Milner it seems will just never get. Bassong at the very worst is at least a very good athlete who knows how to use his body to defend effectively, Taylor despit his physique still doesn't seem like he can even do that much. I'm just really frustrated with both Milner and Taylor at the minute, and perhaps I'm over reacting, but they really are dissapointing. I feel annoyed that we have given these guys brand new contracts because I'm not sure they deserve them, as they haven't really performed on the pitch for us yet. Yorkie
-----------------Given----------------- --Beye----Coloccini---Faye--Enrique-- --Guttierez---Guthrie---N'Zogbia-- ----Owen-----Viduka----Martins---- Tbh. Decent looking team that. Barton/N'Zogbia... dunno if Zoggy would fit into that position; he's shit when he's dead in the middle, but he'd have more license to roam and push wide in that formation. Whoever it was that put Duff there... That team/transfer haul may look a little bit disappointing to some people; but it's last season's best team... only improved, and improved in the most crucial area too. Another centre-mid and/or another striker would be good but i'd be happy going into the new season with that line-up. Not that i think we'll be playing 4-3-3 anyway. Didn't see the game tonight but sounds like a pile of wank. Looking at the team, i'm not surprised in the slightest. Absolute dogshit. How did Duff do? Still fooling people into believing he's a capable footballer?

Cajun
To claim Taylor and Milner are championship players is just stupid. Shak
-----------------Given----------------- --Beye----Coloccini---Faye--Warnock-- ----Guttierez---Guthrie---Arda-- -------------------Owen-- -----------Baptista----Martins---- Attack, attack, attack attack attack. Reckon that team would overwhelm enough of the poorer teams in the league to comfortably finish in the top half. I'll be very disappointed if we're going with a flat 4-4-2 next year. Just doesn't make sense to do so, as I can't see Martins and Owen working as a tandem and none of our CM are particularly fantastic in the traditioanl AM role. If we were to sell them tomorrow I am certain premiership clubs would be interested and we would get a fair amount for both. Not that sell-on value is a great measurement for player ability, particularly when they're "young and English"... i totally agree. Not Premiership standard? Come on... We doubtless improved without Milner in the side last season but he's decent enough to have in the squad. And Taylor was part of a back four that was solid, dependable, consistent, organised and had a very good shape at the back end of last season, and kept five clean sheets in eight. Still prefer Faye like, but Taylor's hardly a bad player. I know, i haven't watched the game tonight so i can't make a judgement on his most recent performance, but that's probably a good thing as it stops me from knee-jerking into such daft comments as "he's Championship standard". How did Duff do? Still fooling people into believing he's a capable footballer? Duff was promising driving the play forward, trying to get the rest of the team pumped. I heard him screaming for the ball on several occasions, had nice little one-twos with Milner and was far more promising in attack than Smith.
