Offshore
Offer him in part exchange for Elano in January would be the best thing for all parties. City get a player they've been linked with for ages and we get someone who can bridge the gap between midfield and attack that can also take a frekick better than Nicky Butt. Not a bad idea. I think you are forgetting something - City are in a far different financial league than NUFC now, and will not be overjoyed at the prospect you offer..! They MAY take Owen - but only on THEIR terms, not NUFC's. Personally, I hope they do, then all those who want to see Owen out of the door will be able to see how the team does without him for the rest of the season......happy with that !? Guest Stephen927
Had a bad game but he is still the best striker at the club, and we'll not see anyone with his quality for a while after he leaves, if he does leave. Owen's attitude has been nothing but professional since he got here.
Gaz
If we are not creating chances its totally pointless him being on pitch because he does not give us anything. He does not close down defenders and drops off to get it off one full back to pass it to the other full back, great that! His work rate is shocking and never breaks sweat and least Oba is always a threat, even if he sometimes is very frustrating.
Guest toonlass
Owen is a natural goalscorer, but his workrate is poor. He isn't captain material in my book either. I think that when you look at the likes of Shearer or even Given they inspire(d) the lads on, they shout and organise(d) on the pitch whereas Owen seems to only care about his game. Nicky Butt's legs may have gone but he is definitely a better captain than Owen.

If I were a player in our team, it would probably lift up my confidence just by looking at Owen standing in front of me leading the team out. His presence itself is enough to give anyone on our team a boost but everyone need to do their part and give him the service he needs.

TRon
On paper Owen and Viduka would be the Gemmill wankfest dream partnership with Martins nowhere in sight. However I think Keegan found room for Oba for a reason.

However I think Keegan found room for Oba for a reason. Because his pace can stretch teams. And as we found out towards the end of last season that some teams couldn't cope with all three working together in tandem. Theres a reason why those 3 worked together ever so well during the last stages of the previous season. In Viduka, you have a player who can hold up the ball well which then allows the other players to go into attacking position, waiting for him to release the ball while in Martins, you have a player with quick legs and is so unpredictable when he is going forward. He can run past through the opposition and create scoring opportunities for himself or other players. And lastly in Owen, we have a player with a natural born goalscoring ability. He just needs to be in the right place at the right time and with the right services, he will find the back of the net. Therefore, I would love to see these 3 playing together once again in the near future. It worked so well the last time and there is no reason why it cannot be done again in the future. lovejoy
the 'tactically inept' keegan had him playing very very well in a different role, and scoring goals as well. was very poor yesterday.

Guest neesy111
owen has cost this club 36 million in total 16 million fee, 5million a year x 4 is more than 20 million

Mr. Snrub
How about saving the concern for something more important like our non existant central midfield instead of a proven, top class striker. Ridiculous these threads.
Guest
Tbh, unless the chance is created for him, he doesn't score. At least with Martins, you can just give him the ball and he can create his own opportunities. And there's the problem with Martins for me. Technically, of the three strikers he's possibly the best, but as a pairing, it's Owen & Viduka everytime for me. One cameo of this being the Viduka chance where Owen knocked it nicely into his path. Martins is not that sort.

AyeDubbleYoo
I'd like to see him back in the 433 when Viduka is fit, take some of the focus off him and allow him to float about. I don't think Joe will go for it though for some reason.

Cronky
heading to Liverpool in January. Benitez ruled that out unequivocally last night. If he goes at all, he'll go to one of the aspiring clubs in the North / Midlands area - Man City, Villa or Everton. If the big four were interested, he'd have left two years ago. Whatever the formation, he's a specialist goal-poacher and it's only worth including a player like that if you can be assured that he's going to finish nearly every chance that comes his way. That just isn't the case with Owen, mainly because he's still extremely weak on his left foot. Plus, of course, he can't sprint away from defenders like he used to. Cronky
In games where Owen doesn't score I find myself wondering whether Shola would have had more impact? Well they're different players who offer a different package to the side. But the best striking combination that I've seen recently has been Shola and Martins, and it's the combination that counts. maze
Whatever Owen chooses to do, I'd not hold it against him. Of coure I'd like him to stay, because he's an important player for us now. But I also realise that IF we'd been in a different situation i.e being in the top 5 with no worries, I would min seeing him leave on the free or being sold as no player is more important than the club. At the end of the day we all want the players we have to want to play for newcastle United, rather than seeing us as just way of getting their pay cheque.
