oldtype
Am I right in thinking that North Korea are on course to qualify for the World Cup? Wasn't expecting that, not sure what to make of it given the country's problems. They'll be second in the group until about twenty minutes later. It's not going to happen really. There's a fairly large gulf between us, Iran and everyone else in the group.
Disco
What time is the USA-Mexico game on? Rather watch that then Spain-England, not that they'd be on at similar times. Midnight England time Love it if N.Korea got to the World Cup like. Wouldn't mind that. Never gonna happen though. Also, the spine of their team is now composed of children of immigrants to Japan who only nominally hold North Korean citizenship, so it wouldn't be the same kind of story it was in 1966. Ah, wouldn't be the same at all. If they were true N.Koreans it would've been interesting to see how they dealt with the western media & how they manipulated it etc. etc.

We've got a great group of young players and hopefully they'll mature before 2010 to save us from an utter embarrassment. God we're s*** today. Seeing us trying to play carpet football makes you yearn for some good 'ol Big Sam style long ball. EDIT: Jisung Park scored almost the moment I hit post
oldtype
Iran's keeper has been absolutely phenomenal today by the way. Given-esque shot stopping ability. Sign him?

Disco
As England are playing a proper team for a change I think I might enjoy watching them. Can't remember the last time I watched an England friendly.

Can't remember the last time I watched an England friendly. I thought the same but then remembered that the worst game of football Ive ever seen was the last England vs Spain match. I'll still watch it like.

Capello surely needs to look at the players who will replace James after 2010, when he will most likely retire. What's your opinion?

I think that James is the best English keeper by some way and that he'll be the number one for the world cup, we can rebuild afterwards. I also think that there's a lot to be said for building a winning mentality and that replacement players find it easier to come into a team when that's the case. There's an argument that players need to experience the international game, but Green's done that already and so I think the only way he should be in the team is if he's the best keeper available. I don't think he is.

I don't think he is. Fair enough, that's an understandable view. Do you think Green will be first choice after James? I personally think he will be. Carson and Robinson aren't consistent enough at club level, Hart isn't experienced enough yet, Kirkland (imo) isn't really that good and the likes of Harper will need to perform well in a string of games before getting near the team.
