Parky
I thought Shepherd made some stupid appointments, ridiculous decisions and reckless purchases, and was glad to see the back of him. Ashley has subsequently somehow managed to out-incompetence him in pretty much every department. I think we were screwed whichever of them had been in charge, it just seems people have a preference for being butt-raped by a fellow geordie than a cockney interloper - keep it in the family if you will. I wonder how far we'll have to drop before people realise how bad Ashley's decision making is?
AyeDubbleYoo
Ashley has obviously been bad (if he's only to be judged in the short term), but Shepherd and every shit manager he appointed and allowed to waste the clubs money are just as culpable for our current situation. Owen and Luque could have both worked out however (barring injuries - Luque was never the same after his). But I agree GS made love noises for Anelka. My point regarding quality stands however. Aye, I suppose, but I don't see how trying and failing to buy quality is much better than trying to buy cheaper players with potential and not getting enough in. The result is the same either way, one puts the clubs future in doubt by wrecking its finances, the other does it by getting us relegated.

You need to buy one or two big game players to filter in with the hopefuls.

So in reality the both of them have been shit Owner/Chairman and have fucked this club up big time, one being naive and the other for being a greedy cunt. I agree with that, the only thing I would say is that maybe the felt forced not to spend big because of the financial state the club was left in. In hindsight obviously it would have been better to spend big to stay up.

But what runs through both regimes has been the inability or craven stupidity not to hire good football people behind the scenes. SA for all his other failings I think has been the only one who tried to redress this with his back up team of a million or so specialists.

Parky
The way I see it was that Shepherd stayed owner too long and Ashley became owner too fast. It was compounded by the fact that Ashley took some time to realise he was the owner.
