Guest Alan Shearer 9
Taylor and Campbell could be an excellent partnership. Despite his lack of pace he is still an efficient and tidy defender. In the 32 games he started last season, he only committed 20 fouls and only picked up one yellow card. Campbell's all-round calmness will be effective in this league. How many goals were conceded in those games? Who gives a fuck how many fouls he committed?

Guest Alan Shearer 9
Maybe he couldn't catch any honky so he couldn't get close enough to make a foul. Works both ways.

Skirge
Campbell wants Toon move Experienced defender waiting to see if switch materialises Last updated: 18th August 2009 Sol Campbell has revealed that he would 'love' to sign for Newcastle United, but he is not sure if a deal will be completed. The 73-time England international is a free agent after his contract with former club Portsmouth expired in the summer. Newcastle are looking for defensive reinforcements after selling Sebastian Bassong and Habib Beye, while Steven Taylor is reported to be close to requesting a transfer. Campbell's experience, built from time with Tottenham and Arsenal, could therefore be viewed as vital as the Magpies plot a way out of the Championship. The 34-year-old is himself interested in a move to Tyneside, however, he is waiting to see if a transfer will materialise. He said in the Daily Star: "I would love to sign for Newcastle if it is possible, but we'll have to wait and see." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_5497159,00.html

TRon
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2593000/Sol-slashes-pay-to-join-Newcastle.html Well.....that seems fairly conclusive. Unless it's not true. We may well have offered him 15k but I doubt he's just going to accept the first figure we throw at him even if he is keen to come here. There'll be better offers lying on the table, for him to agree to that he must really be desperate to move up here.
geordie jamie
Hughton says nothing iminent in the journal not been given green light to sign players. Guest sicko2ndbest
Hughton says nothing iminent in the journal not been given green light to sign players. Only signed simpson as needed cover as sold beye Obvious to me that this is a Moat/Shearer thing. Should it go through Campbell will be in, should it not, he won't. hakka
Happy for Campell to come in, it would soften the blow if Taylor leaves, but I'd prefer to keep Taylor, sign Campbell and let Coloccini be sold.
Cajun
We would still need colo though or sign another centre backs along with Sol.
James
If signing Campbell meant Shola as No. 9, would you still want it?
relámpago blanco
If signing Campbell meant Shola as No. 9, would you still want it? Don't care tbh, he'll probably score more goals than any of our other strikers and thats what the number 9 is for.

James
No problem myself like, but I just wanted to bring the possibility up to see who gets riled by the idea.
BlueStar
He'd be a cracking signing and I reckon he's still got it. He might be 34, but the attributes he's relied on during his career aren't the ones that vanish with age.
Guest
Worse strikers than Shola have worn the number 9. We've just been spoilt in that for the last 15 years we've always had good to legendary players wear the shirt in one go.

James
To be honest, I just want to see Campbell sign for us, so we can see Phil Brown's reaction when he finds out Campbell would rather take a pay cut and come here, than go there.
James
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/championship/newcastleunited/6048028/Newcastle-play-down-Sol-Campbell-move.html No offence to the man, but Hughton is ultimately irrelevant in all this. He just coaches the team and picks the team, and isn't parley to anything else.
