WhatTheFunk
still a class act imo. don't just look at the goals he's scored from there this season, but look at the goals he's been involved in. absolute quality football player, and I believe it's still the belated "dip in form" seeing as he's still so young. I think Ferguson will bring in a specialist for the left and move Rooney more central, especially if Tevez leaves.
Guest getalife
That 'old Rooney' scored a hat trick on his European debut didn't he ...?
Guest Heneage
Something that I have been saying for quite some time. He's lost that spark, that edge to his game that he used to have. He never goes on mazy runs anymore attacking the opposition, playing lovely through balls, playing just off the centre forward. His game used to be all about pace, movement, unpredictability. He might be a better team player now but he's not the player saw as an 18 year old that's for certain. Give me the Rooney of Euro 2004 over this one any day of the week. These days he would never try a volley as audacious as the one scored against us.

Guest iliketoonarmy
He's not, and never. Just an overated English player. Should have sent off for shouting at referee for so many games. Just imagine when those referee didn't give a shit he is from Man Utd, he is never going to developed to be a top player at this stage. Just personal opinion. The Rooney we've all see for the last 3 years You havent really watched any of Man Utd for the past 3 years.. he has single handedly destroyed teams this year and as for 'will never try a volley like that again' one of the most ridiculous posts ever read, of course he would. he doesnt doubt his own ability, he is in a team that has 15+ chances a game on most matchdays and he has great technique. So if the ball is bouncing nicely in front of him he will obviously hit in.
Cronky
He struggled against Barca, but there again the whole team did. Barca are very good at shutting down space and the Man U midfield struggled. Normally, the great man gets his selections bang on, but in this case I think he should have played Scholes, who can operate in confined spaces very well and who always keeps his nerve. I've seen Rooney play some brilliant games from that wider position, and of course Man U have had a very successful season, so it's hard to criticise. Rooney has less opportunity to hit those long-range shots that were his trademark, but at the same time he gets plenty of the ball out wide. The danger of moving someone out wide is that they become more peripheral, but that doesn't seem to happen with Rooney.

Fatwax
I don't know if he's being wasted as such, but I fail to see how anyone can say that Fergie hasn't changed his game dramatically. He was much more sporadic, unpredictable and exciting earlier in his career and whilst at Man Utd he's been calmed down somewhat, but his teamwork and work ethic has increased a hell of alot. It's all opinion on which player you'd want in your team but I'd opt for the Euro 2004 Rooney easily.

Colocho
I think his all-round ball play has improved significantly, as has his ability off the ball. Maybe Fergie has purposely put him that position to mature him as a player?
madras
rooney up front and being able to switch with ronaldo and maybe tevez would be unplayable...but sir alex says only ronaldo is allowed to drift. that decision, in my humble opinion cost man utd the champions league title (tee hee)
midds
He's just given him a bit of discipline that he never had at Everton. Fergie knows what he's going to get from him out there but can still change the game by switching him upfront without using a sub.

I have watched just about every minute of Man U's play this season and last (not that i'm proud of that) He has destroyed teams, you're right, but he doesn't have the same flair to his game he had when he first went to Man U. Like I said earlier, he seems very reluctant to put his foot though the ball and the speculative efforts are pretty few and far between. He's sacrificing himself for the team, playing almost like a wide midfielder at times, which is sad, for me, considering he's england's brightest attacking talent to emerge in the last 15 years. Guest Stephen927
He has certainly calmed down a lot from the kid we saw at Everton, he's less raw. He's had a decent goal return this season so I don't think he's wasted, he's just had to adapt his game to fit other talented players in, unfortunately thats what happens to versatile players.
