Tooj
I don't think the number of foreign players makes a heap of difference btw. The only thing it does is cover these players weaknesses every week and allow them to build up their reputations. If the players were being developed right they'd make it regardless of how many foreign players there are. There's so many foreigners in the league at the minute because the youngsters that are coming through aren't good enough, not the other way round. Untill there is a limit of 3 foreign players in a side (the EU has f***ed that up anyway) this mire will continue. You really think that will benefit the league? It's not about the league is it? It's about Eng players getting more games and taking more responsability. However it's dressed up there aren't enough Eng players coming through to make a difference (never mind quality one's). The players making it into the teams and playing every week isn't going to help. They are still fundamentally not very good. Only changing the way they are coached and developed from the very start will help. Yes the coaching and development needs to be changed, but they'd still need to be picked into the team when the time comes. Having 5 or so English players playing week after week would be better than them sitting on the bench week after week. Actually only the reluctance of Wenger to spend has meant Ox, Walcott and Wilshire getting games...If Gervinho has been all he was cracked up to be where would even Walcott and Ox be getting games?? Wilshere gets games because he's a class act.
Hanshithispantz
The thing is for all our talk of technique etc we were outplaying them for a good 15 minute period with ease The fuck happened Whatever caused us to sit back for the rest of the game is the issue. I think the mad cunt beating the offside trap with ease would have had something to do with it. There was a few periods where we looked dangerous going forwards but Italy would just cut us apart with a ball over the top.
Cajun
In all honesty, would we really want to sacrifice our league for the England national team? Fuck that. Exactly, imagine taking away our Krul, Santon, Colo, Cabaye, Jonas, Tiote, Cisse, Ba, Ben Arfa etc..
WarrenBartonCentrePartin
we had our chances between 15 and 30 minutes and didn't take them. Said at the time it would come back to haunt us.

We let Pirlo do his thing. Basically, we had no-one on him at all in the second half and as a result, he was able to do what he's good at - influencing play. When we were off the ball in the first half, we certainly had a fair few players tracking Pirlo but as the game went on, the players forgot those instructions... ElDiablo
The one thing all sucessful sides do that we don't it pressure high up the pitch. Every time we did it (albeit not often) we invariably won the ball back in their half. Fucking ridiculous to then sit back and invite what is a good but not great Italy onto us. They were there for the beating tonight imo, but the tactics were wrong and you've got to look at Hodgson's 442 and over conservativeness.
afar
Just finished watching it. Had to take my daughter to a birthday party. Got to say I was hugely disappointed in the performance, it was terrible and the two Ashleys summed up the way they've played in the tournament with their penalty kicks. Got what we deserved in the end, nothing, and Italy aren't world beaters by any stretch of the imagination.
Parky
You can see how scared the Eng players are without a Modric or a Silva or a Mata pulling the strings and building an attack for them. They don't really understand sequencing or rotating and interchanging into a better position. This was an average Italian side but the football intelligence was like that of Einstein plaing a brickie at chess.

That describes their play yeah, but doesnt explain our complete lack of possession when we had it suddenly. We just seem to lose our bottle in general when hard pressed, resulting in long balls & clearances to no one.

The class and intelligence in midfield really shone through for me, not just with Pirlo but the others too.

Guest neesy111
Right which we miraculously had for a 15 minute period as i said. We didn't. The italians started off both half's slowly. Soon as they found a rhythm they contained us fairly easily despite being fairly average themselves.

Alberto2005
Pretty simple really. Asking these players to keep the ball is retarded. If it's not something you do every single week then as soon as something goes wrong then the tendency is to change. Obviously having technical players help, but even if you did it every week you'd see a big improvement. Look at Swansea, it's not as if they have players with incredible technical all the way through the team, but if you get them doing it in training everyday and in matches even when you're losing then it will become natural. Parky
The only option for Eng in the near future is to play two proper wingers (who beat people and cross) and two holding midfielders. It's something that they understand and will garner goals. I'd have started Carroll, Walcott and OX today and just told Gerrard to hit them (the wingers) early. ponsaelius
The other thing I hate is apart from the lack of composure and technique in terms of keeping the ball, but the total lack of flair players we produce. The closest we have to flair players are some of the wide players but most are just predictable speed merchants. Massively disappointed with Young in this tournament, has looked absolutely abysmal at international level. There's tiny nations like Eastern European countries that manage to produce skillful, technical players. Even if they don't have the depth or quality we do they at least produce the odd footballer you'd PAY to watch. Our players are just so fucking dull man.
