What if he had bought a smaller club with a smaller, "less passionate" fan base, smaller (more manageable) debt, and a lower profile? Would his methods have worked? Jayson Posted July 10, 2009 Share Posted July 10, 2009 Think it would have been different if hed bought another side yes In that scenario he wouldnt have let go* a very popular manager So the fans wouldnt all turn against him And supposedly he'd have had more money to invest in the side The team he bought would have had less injuries & a bigger squad so they could compete They would have had one manager, all the way through the season His ideas for investing in young talent would have been positive etc etc Yes he made a giant cock up by choosing us. He couldnt handle it. The problem wasnt his initial ideas but how he reacted to the situations that came about. The guy has disasterous decision making skills it seems. I thought his continental model could have worked had he employed a european manager with a european director that were willing to work with each other. Instead he creamed his pants when he first heard Keegan was available and a completely misguided decision to bring in Wise as a director of football. Obviously a figure like him brings sentimentality and a rallying of the troops. We're just not a straightforward club, which is why he has failed so miserably, for not recognizing that. Not trying to move any blame away from Ashley at all, but let's face facts that a less prominent, controversial and troubled club would have been a much easier purchase for him.
