whay anybody would choose this is just beyond fucking belief tbh.

It's an iconic club with a proud history that's fallen on hard-times in recent years.

By all rights, this club should be competing with the likes of Liverpool, ManU, Chelsea, etc. Especially considering its popularity worldwide and financial standing relative to most clubs in the world.

As has been mentioned once or twice. I'm a re-educated (brief! Brief, you rat motherfuckers.) Liverpool fan. After that CL, they were my team and I didn't think much of it until I heard about some sort of controversy about them not being allowed back into the CL because of their league position. That was when I decided to look up what the CL actually was. Upon realizing I'd picked a team that just won the biggest trophy that a team can win, I backed off and decided to let a team find me. Next season rolls around and I see a lot of games from the big clubs, and sprinkled in there are fair share of Spurs and NUFC games.

I whittled the candidates down to NUFC and Spurs, figuring I would simply support the worse team, so that I could feel like I was there for the entire trip to the top (ahahahahhaa haaa). At the time, Spurs...iirc seemed like a young, promising team. Whereas Newcastle....well. It was 2005, you were all there. I don't need to say anything. The only thing that stood out was Shearer. I'm not romanticizing this shit, but there was something about him that reminded me so much of Patrick Ewing (my Shearer equivalent) that I was immediately biased towards your team.

That September you were playing a game vs Fulham, and I was just watching it, you know, as a casual. Really leaning towards your team and all that but still not really calling myself a fan or whatever until Zoggy hit this late FK goal to tie it up. He hit it from the same spot HBA likes to cut in and it just spun into the net. I was on my feet before I realized the shit, and I've been in ever since. Found the board like a year later, because I had no idea where else to go to learn about the team.

Now Spurs are awesome and I get called a Scouser. It worked out like I expected, tbh.

New member, and a non-Geordie, so I thought this would be a good place to start.

The city would be my primary reason for supporting Newcastle, so I voted on that basis. I absolutely love Newcastle as a city, my favourite night out in the UK has always been Newcastle and the people are great, good humoured and friendly.

My affection for the team began in the 90s, from watching Beardsley/Cole link up superbly, being entertained by the likes of Ginola and Asprilla, and seeing defenders like Albert break the usual mould of big horrible lumps as British defenders that struggle to 'play' on the deck..........as a Glasgow schoolboy looking in on the Premiership from afar Newcastle were exciting, unique, unpredictable......and winning, which is always an attraction when you are young and flirting with a 'foreign' league. But my affection has remained despite the ups and downs since those exciting days in the 90s.

I remember attending Michael Owen's debut, at home to Fulham, 1-1. I had been invited along to a hospitality box that day for lunch through work, and what always strikes you at Newcastle is the passion running right through the club from top to bottom, like nothing else I've seen at any other club. You expect it from the Newcastle fans, but every single staff member I came across was just buzzing, you could physically see it in them all. When Michael Owen's name was read out that day one of the female staff working in our box was in tears she was so happy !

I'll be honest, my biggest love is Glasgow Rangers........so give me a break if you guys think you have it tough just now  :weep: But generally speaking I'm just an obsessive football fan, love the Premiership and have had a long lasting and deep affection for Newcastle for roughly the last 18 years, as have my brother and father who have also attended Newcastle games and view them as their favourite Premiership side.

It's a difficult time for Newcastle just now, and while it's certainly not a crisis in my view, the problems run deeper than just selection, or just the manager, or just the signing policy, or just the owner......there is a combination of factors that have led to disappointment and inconsistency in recent years and I look forward to debating these issues with you all over the coming season and beyond.

So that when my son grows up, follows my lead and falls in love with newcastle, he will have a genuine reason to resent me for introducing him to the club.

Shearer and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet which my parents watched every week

I don't even remember anymore but those are the only things I can think of. My dad's a pretty big ManUtd fan so a bit surprised he didn't manage to brain wash me.

A question lots of Geordies ask me... Born in the West Midlands I soon moved up north as my Dad and his side of the family are Geordies. I lived the for a few years, went to school there (Steven Taylor's school oddly I found out) and aged 8 moved back down to the West Mids with a broad Geordie accent which I've now lost, in my 30's now. I still have extended family there (it's complicated) but I love my football and do get to games when I can. I was presented with a choice I guess and enjoyed watching other clubs and especially foreign (Italian) clubs on TV as a youngster, it wasn't until Newcastle were televised a lot in the Endsleigh Division 2 that I could really follow them properly... but I'd only ever pay to travel and support one club live. I have golden memories and my heart has a soft spot for the place I guess.  :coolsmiley:

Mine is a mixed connection. My father is a football lover from London who, through work, found himself in the North East. He met my mother whilst up there, she was Welsh born but had 2 brothers born in  Newcastle. My parents got married in Newcastle and I was born a geordie.  My dad used to watch NUFC every home match, but he also used to go and see the mackems when they were playing at home (and NUFC weren't) just to see a game. He's definitely more NUFC than mackem though! Finally my brother was born in North London (and lives there now) and is a season ticket holder at The Emirates, although he did go to Newcastle University and, if you really interrogate him, went to our games and will admit to having a "soft spot".
