Huge farewell to Robson

Some 600 people have attended a religious ceremony in memory of Sir Bobby Robson in Durham Cathedral. President Joan Laporta attended in representation of FC Barcelona

The ceremony in memory of the late Bobby Robson commenced at 14.00 (local time) at Durham Cathedral. Some 600 people packed the temple, including several important football celebrities, including Alex Ferguson, Gary Lineker, Fabio Capello and Alan Shearer, and members of the British Royal Family.

Barça representatives

FCB was represented by Joan Laporta, in the company of technical secretary Txiki Begiristain, director of football, Raül Sanllehí, and youth football manager, José Ramón Alexanko.

One of the most emotional moments of the event was the playing of the aria ‘Nessun Dorma’ from Puccini’s ‘Turandot’ and Mark Knopfler’s song ‘Local Hero’.

“A captivating person”

After the memorial service for Sir Bobby Robson, president Joan Laporta spoke to Barça TV and www.fcbarcelona.cat and described the former FC Barcelona manager as “a generous and captivating person, a humble man full of knowledge and generosity”.

I wish the club would come out with a special replica-kit honoring Sir Bobby, with proceeds going towards his charity.

Club kit, with SBR foundation instead of Northern Rock, Sir Bobby 1 or something on the back, loads of people would buy that.

I see Red X, but I'm guessing it's Katherine Jenkins from the Ronnie Gill.  Yup, great set of pipes on her.

I was just looking through Youtube for some videos of this and came across about 15 different sets of supporters paying their tributes at games just after he passed. PSV's fans singing "Walking in a Robson wonderland" when playing VVV Venlo, Sunderland supporters at Celtic, Notts County fans etc. Incredible.
