Foluwashola
I like Italy Anyway, why would anybody who's English not want us to win the World Cup? Or was it a joke? Me dad fucking despises England for some reason, actually cheers when countries beat us in cricket, rugby etc.
Village Idiot
Newcastle winning the Carling Cup or England winning the World Cup? Carling Cup, every time. England are only there to fill in the gaps every other summer (apart from the summer of 08 though). Though I would rather England win trophies ahead of every other nation. Carling Cup is bloody tinpot though. Chances are it will be gone in a few years anyway. So, I'd rather see Newcastle win something then England win something, club ahead of country. We're the only country on the planet that puts clubs before our own country I'm inclined to agree, but it's sad I think. i'll bet you'll find many people abroad who'll put their domestic teams fortunes before their national teams ? I certainly do. I support Spain but FC Barcelona > All. And I know many Spanish people that put club before country. Ultimately international football only really takes up your attention one month every two years, while your club you live every week.

Probably yes, from what I have scoped elsewhere though I think it happens alot more with English football fans. I don't know whether that's because of a lack of patriotism or just because club football/local divides are far more engrained into people in this country. http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370904&highlight=club+country Interesting poll from another forum - the majority of the people who are voting for Club are British. Village Idiot
Most posters in bigsoccer are Americans, not really representative. They are very patriotic and they lack an established club tradition.
Dave
I never understand where this discussion comes from. Yes I'd rather Newcastle won something than England given the choice but considering they will never ever be in competition with each other I can't see why the choice even gets brought up. There is no choice. When England play I want them to win, every time. Doesn't mean I want Newcastle to win any less.

gazza ladra
I'm American, but I put NUFC ahead of the national team. No question about it.
Dave
They enter in conflict when players miss preseasons, get injuried in international duty, etc... They're no more likely to be injured or anything else playing for a national team, and competitive football is better preparation than meaningless friendlies anyway. Don't get me wrong it pisses me off if our players get injured not playing for us, but at the end of the day it wouldn't make me want my country to lose. ponsaelius
Most posters in bigsoccer are Americans, not really representative. They are very patriotic and they lack an established club tradition. That's probably the case. However I'd say for example Africans, Asians and Australians would also favour country over club while Europeans and possibly South Americans would go with clubs. The reason you mentioned would explain this to be honest. If I was forced to give an answer to this question, I'd probably end up saying Newcastle because it's what I invest the most money, time and passion into. However what I don't understand is when people are proud to say club over country, where they're happy to disregard their nationality because of local pride. This seems to be quite a common trend, and I think it's sad.

Okay for the most part they're a bunch of cunts, but they're the most talented players in the country. What would you rather happened, a load of rubbish but nice guys were picked from the lower leagues across the country?

Foluwashola
Must admit I'm a shit England "fan". Hopefully when the World Cup fever spreads across the country I'll get whipped into a state of patriotism, purchase a bulldog and indulge in casual racism. Not that either matters like. Feel more affinity for club players, though, but then I start thinking about Man City and teams like that and it becomes very different. Though for fans of smaller clubs there are greater numbers of players having come through the academy, etc. blahblah
