The other games today - 2009/10

nice to see ashley young couldnt be bothered to take those headphones off there.

The obsession of modern footballers with always wearing oversized headphones makes me want to PUT MY FIST THROUGH THE f***ing TELLY every time I see it.

They do that so they don't have to stop & talk to anyone I reckon half the time it is switched off. There was one Newcastle player (cant remember there name atm) said if he saw fans coming he would whip out his mobile & pretend he was talking on it.

mike ashley speaks!!!! amazing

I spoke to Mike Ashley the season before last. I said something along the lines of "Hello, Mike". I can't remember exactly what, but it was a platitude.

He was coming through the car park at the back of the North Stand, and passing through a load of Villa fans. Many of our lot recognised him and engaged in what is (annoyingly) termed "banter" these days, but many patted him on the back, wished him well, and asked for photos / autographs.

He was very obliging indeed, posing for pictures, signing autographs, and took the mild verbals he was getting with considerable good humour.

I thought he seemed quite a pleasant billionaire.

LOL just saw the Leeds result, I was keen to see them back in the Championship next year before they got arsey about Beckford, now funny as hell that they may have to rely on the playoffs despite holding onto beckford to help them get up, they'll lose him on a free now and hopefully not get up :)

I know it's a bit rich coming from me, but did anyone else notice how none of the newcastle fans they interviewed before the game for the FLS had a geordie accent. Also, anyone care to name and shame people acting up to the camera behind the bbc bloke. Come on, someone must know who they were.

It may come as a surprise to you but we do have fans outside of Newcastle .

It always annoys me too (and the same with other clubs). Rich coming from me as well.

As a fellow non-geordie I noticed this as well, thought it was odd they managed to get three in a row.

After they spoke to our fans, I was expecting the Peterborough fan to have a thick Geordie accent

"Wey aye man, we should just be put out of our misery like and be relegated doon"

No co-incidence that Clem is a Smoggie, although the fact that the majority of Newcastle-based supporters will have spent 3 hours on the train getting mortal might have been a factor...

2 lads I went to school with, and Ketsbaia's Shiny Head is (or was, I don't know!) mates with were on MOTD jumping around like lunatics when Anton Ferdinand scored that 'goal'.

Yeah I bet they felt silly. They looked like cheesy chip loving hooligans! How jammy though, their first match in years and they get on telly straight away!

That reminds me... Can't believe I haven't told this story on N-O before.

Happened after my second trip to SJP (spring of 2008 I think), I had an extra day in London after the match (an unfortunate 3-0 pasting against Liverpool) and decided I'd head over to Upton Park to catch West Ham vs. Spurs, partly because I wanted to see Nobby in action and partly because I had nothing better to do with my time.

Since this was a spur of the moment thing, I didn't have a ticket on me which left me circling the ground in search of a tout... Turns out these aren't all that easy to find in England and I was just about to head elsewhere when I found a bloke who offered me a ticket for 2x face value. Helluva lot of cash to drop on watching a match as a neutral... But what the hell, I don't get to go to England that often.

So I grab my ticket and run over to the ground, hoping to see Spurs get a good pasting... And that's when I notice that my ticket is in the away section. The god damn first row of the away section.

The minute I sit down two rather nice looking (and large) blokes from either side clap me on the back and ask me whereabouts I'm from, and I don't have the heart (or balls) to tell them that I'm a neutral (worse yet, a Newcastle fan.) So I play along and try to stay as quiet as possible... And West Ham score first off a beautiful assist from Solano. It takes everything I've got to feign mild disappointment. When Michael Dawson scores a late equalizer, the blokes on either side of me are all over me jumping up and down and I muster every last molecule of acting skill in my body to appear happy.

So that was that, I chalk it off as an unusual experience and head home. A few days later, I'm browsing match reports on the net when I find this.

Yup, the only time I've ever been caught on camera in fifteen years of watching footy... And it had to be while I was sitting with Tottenham away fans in Upton Park.

The Appy Ammers are not going to be happy with the Fulham team sheet again. I think it is safe to say Ann Summers gear, The Sport & The Sunday Sport & various dildos will not be on sale at Harrods any time soon.
