Joey Barton (now retired)

Recommended Posts

Just got back from that talk in. Barton was class, told it like it was:

Will sign if Nolan does, would be asking to be captain at any other Premier league team except us, Nolan is proper leader.

Said it was funny players who said they wanted to stay were the first 'cunts to fuck off'.

Love him.

Pair of them spoke about investment but nowt to report. Spoke alot about the spirit, how they've really bought into the club. All positive stuff, sly dig from Barton about the owners and also January, but was really good to hear from them.

Didn't say out really to report, the pair of them.

Barton:

Loves playing here, will probably live here for life.

Will sign if Nolan does, real spirit in the camp and Nolan responsible.

Turned to Smith in Leyton Orient game and said this is the best thing that's happened to us.

Laughed when reading players (mentioned no names, hinted at Duff, Martins, Beye) saying they loved the club and fans and they were the 'first cunts to fuck off'.

With investment this club can go far, came here to win things, still his ambition.

Had a laugh about the fight in city centre as well.

Days like Plymouth and 5-1 will live with him forever.

Club needs to stop doing stupid stuff like 'selling your best striker and not replacing him' and 'signing players like Ben Arfa which is great, but forgetting about the likes of Nolan who deserve new deals'

Nolan:

Admitted he's not the most giften footballer in the world, but will work his bollocks off for the club.

Would move up here after career if it wasn't for his family.

Spoke alot about the spirit, thanked Hughton, Calderwood and PB.

Makes it clear to young lads/new players if they don't like it, to piss off.

Was there last night.  Overall the talk-in was good, highlight was obviously Nolan/Barton, but plenty of other midfielders there for a good bit of banter...some old faces and a bit of insight into our history.

Pretty much what Chicken wrote in the summary sums it up, nothing really more said.

A few knackers at the front where shouting and balling a few times which got on my threpneys though, but overall it was for a good cause too.

This is the problem Barton and Nolan have though because if we sign 4 or 5 new first team players, they're two of the ones at risk of losing their place if you think that Ben Arfa, Tiote, Coloccini, Enrique and probably Jonas are our 5 biggest players.

I couldn't work out what they were saying, was it 'sign on the dotted line Joey?'

The knackers shouting out were bloody annoying tbh. Shut up and let the lads speak. Was brilliant hearing the likes of Tommy Cassidy, Tony Green and Liam O'Brien speaking.

Nolan and Barton spoke really frankly. Barton was saying that at the end of the relegation season he was playing for 4-5 weeks with pain killing injections directly into the bone in his foot. Barton and Nolan snogged each other too.  While the others were drinking wine and beer Barton had a mug of tea at one point. Some superb auction pieces too.
