Guest BlacknWhiteArmy
Can't really see Barton in Pardew's first choice eleven come start of the season. More focus on pace and fluidity.
Hanshithispantz
If the season started right now would Barton even start? Jonas on the left, Marveaux on the right, Ben Arfa in the hole with Tiote and Cabaye behind. Realistically Barton could back up all except for Jonas and Ben Arfa and I'm sure he'd get into a fair amount of games but if I'm on the last year of a deal and looking for one more big payday I wouldn't be happy being on the bench to start most games. I'd pick him on the right ahead of some untested left winger like. If the season started today I'd go: Tiote Barton Cabaye Ben Arfa Jonas Ba Exactly how i'd go, I even made a daft image on some formation creator site which seems incredibly pointless now
Hanshithispantz
I think Barton would play ahead of either Jonas or Marveaux. I don't Pardews emphasis was pace and movement. Not joeys forte Pace and movement in the side doesn't neccesarily mean that EVERY player has to be a tricky european winger, like.
Fenham Mag
Would definitely have Barton as a starter next season.
Guest johnson293
@Joey7Barton Joseph Barton Why do people take what is put in newspapers as gospel......hope you understand this....."I don't want to leave Newcastle" #bosmanruling 1 minute ago Once again Barton doesn't seem to know when to stop typing what's in his head... that hashtag is unnecessary, In my opinion...much like the one last week about him, Jose and Jonas. Hanshithispantz
Barton and Cabaye threading the balls through is what i'm dreaming of like, take Barton out and I can see 4 erratic forwards running about the pitch like nut cases.
Dave
People seem to forget that there were plenty of times Barton was our best player irrespective of the assists stats etc. If one of the new players proves to be better then fine but as things stand he's still a starter IMO. Yup, this plus we need some continuity and I don't think we can do better in the transfer market for what we'll get for him as a replacement.

gazza ladra
Joey's got a huge chip on his shoulder and will be a major asset whenever we go up against any of the Top 6™ sides.
Anderson
Is he going to be as effective though in a pacy side? Of course. Just because we want to play with pace doesn't mean all 6 attackers need to be fast as fuck. It's not as if he's he cannot run either. Him sitting back dictating the play and starting things off could work wonders IMO.

I agree, but what if we play a different formation or something? Barton is exclusively right midfield these days. Edit: Mind, I would like to see how he'd do in a 3 man midfield. I hate to use this term in respect to proper football, but he could definitely do a job in a midfield three in a sort of quarterbackish role.
ponsaelius
If we're going to have a 3 man midfield (obviously nothing concrete with that assumption), having a choice of Tiote, Cabaye, Barton, Matuidi would be class. Guthrie and Gosling as other options/backup too.
midds
Wouldn't be surprised if he's completely ostracised if he's got his heart set on a Bosman in a years time. Training with the kids, not given a number etc to let him 'know who's boss'. No-one's irreplaceable and no-one's safe. Least of all him, who's having little sly digs here and there at the blokes running the gaff. Hope it doesn't happen but can't help but feel he'll be a little scouse pariah in the dressingroom. I don't think he will be completely took the p*ss out of, but I could see Mike requesting that he is not started for the first few games in August, in an attempt to coax him into handing in a transfer request before the window shuts. Leazes1986
If he doesn't leave this summer (big if) i've got a feeling he might end up staying. If he performs like he did last season again then surely they will look at it and see what a hard task they would have replacing him.
Baggio
If the club think he's going to be a disruptive influence I can see them attempting to loan him out for the final year of his contract like we did with Robert.

Guest
Is he going to be as effective though in a pacy side? Why wouldn't he? I just can't see him playing in the middle, and on the right he'll just slow us right down. Teams will just double up on whoever's down the left knowing that he's not going to hurt them, and with the midfield three it looks like we're aiming for then Cabaye will have the role of setting up attacks, picking out a pass, etc.
Baggio
As things stand I can see him playing in the middle if we go with a 3 man midfield, not sure if he'd start on the right over Marveaux in a 4-4-2.
