Guest optimistic nit Posted September 5, 2009 Share Posted September 5, 2009 Green at the moment. not quite as good as he was a couple of years ago (when him and tevez single handedly kept west ham in the premiership) but he's englands best keeper imo. after that 2 of James, Foster and Hart. James should go, Hart is a really really good keeper but needs to leave citeh if he wants the england shirt and Foster is also a very good keeper although he's only had one season and he was relegated during it. Green Foster and Hart have all shown that they can be top class keepers but we haven't got one keeper who has shown consistantly he is international class (or england interational anyway). He's better than Green at the moment, and given Green's playing football week-in week-out for his club, he's not going to get any 'worse', or lose form - in the same way a youngster in club football needs his games. Green is steady without being spectacular, foster is shit ditto for robinson, hart has plenty of potential but has a lot to learn. Keeper is a pretty hard position to break into. You don't get subbed in for the last minutes if you are winning, and you don't rotate your keeper in the league unless he has some truely shocking form. So if there are 10-12 foreign keepers in the division then there isn't much scope for English keepers. It is kind of like the debate over whether foreign defenders, midfielders etc are keeping out young English talent, but magnified as there is obviously only one kepper in each team. Carson, Foster, Hart et al have all been signed by 'top' clubs but been loaned out as non-English players are playing in the first team. Always found strange that the EPL employs so so many foreign keepers. even playing outfield coming on for the last few minutes does little. if you werer a manager would you be swayed by a great 10 mins in the first team over a poor month in training and poor reserve performances ? Reina>Carson Van Der Sar>Foster Given>Hart Why should teams blood English Keepers and potentially lose money on league places ect, to help out the national side? Just saying that it is an obvious and damaging corollary of foregin imports that our young prospects in such a specialised position will suffer. 20 years ago we had 22 English keepers playing at the top level now we have less than 10. If the player is good enough, regardless of position, they will break into the starting XI. The current crop of English Keepers just aint good enough, especially to cope with the demands of playing for England, knowing that if you step a centremeter out of line, your international career is over due to the media looking for a scapegoat in every single game.
