A wake up call and one I hope Hughton can use to remind Mike Ashley that reinforcements are needed.

Yes there are a lot of s*** teams in this league, but there's two other teams out there who are pissing on them and to finish in the top 2 we have to keep pace with Boro and West Brom (Cardiff will get a lot of points too). There'll be draws and defeats but it's how we bounce back from results like this that matters.

This isn't the end of the world. Boro and West Brom play each other on the weekend, while we've got a very winnable home game. If those two draw and we do our job at home we could be back top by Monday.

But the squad will need reinforcements very soon. There's no point in waiting for an injury crisis before bringing them in, it's clear we're short on numbers and it has to be dealt with now. We have 2 centre backs and one winger at the club.

I don't ever remember Butt scoring a header for us (exception of that friendly)

Geremi on the other hand...........................  O0

i wasn't meaning in goals scored just in general Butt is better in the air than Geremi.

Poor performance for the whole 90mins, think the players had the same mental thinking as most our fans at the game "it's only blackpool" and as expected they were up for it as though it was a cup final.  Playing Carroll as a target man on his own is crazy, flicking balls on to no body and when he got support he rarely had any control of where his flick ons go, at least if you play ranger on his own he can hold the ball up, tonite just saw possession lost very easy which lead to our defence being under pressure all night.

As poor as we were we still could have got something from the game, just to slow with the final ball or the shot, so guess that can be seen as a positive while playing so bad

as yet he doesn't do flick ons anyway. he wins headers with no idea where they're going. most the time it would be the same effect if the defender won the header. he has time though and it may come with experience.

how was his play on the deck tonight ? back end of last season whilst not looking elegent on the ball he was effective and was much improved.

Can't remember him getting much to his feet, everything just seemed to be sent up to his head, his rare touches were just short balls for Butt to launch into the corners. Also carroll seemed to have a nightmare trying to stay onside all night

That is exactly why I expected us to struggle in this league and why the good start was such a surprise.  If that was the case, then they had better snap out of it.

Conversely, we basically used the same set of players in every match, so mentally and physically they must be very tired. That type of mindset is really only a problem when the players are jaded.

I think putting out a balanced team will go a long way to better performances, far too many square pegs in round holes at the moment. You can get away with it for so long but I can't see it working over any period of time.

Whats sad about it is we had a massive warning about the result of playing like that against Cardiff. They dominated the match after we scored possession wise & we still came away with a victory. It couldnt have been a luckier example of a formation not working. So what do we do as a result of being largely outplayed for most of the match, we play exactly the same tactics & formation against the next side. Then we lose as the opposition gets loads of possession & creates chances from that.

Its the same old basic nonsense. Attack is the best form of defence, when you have the ball the opposition doesnt. Same reason Jonas was such a key player for us & many didnt see that - if we have the ball we're on the front foot & they arent fullstop. Our failure the last couple games was not keeping the ball, largely because we lose it in our attempt to find anyone in an attacking position - as theres only been one there against four. Same as last season. It makes the midfield ineffective and we lose games & confidence.

Just seen highlights.

-Carroll's goal was well worked.

- How the hell was Colocinni's shot not a penalty? You get the feeling we aren't gonna get a rub of the green in this league

-Their equalizer was more luck than good work, harper should have turned it round the post but what can you do.

-Winner was scrappy and could have been defended better.

Our failure is not passing the ball around simply, exactly the same as it was last season. It makes the midfield ineffective and we lose games & confidence.

Spot on.

When you've got no wingers, playing one up front is not going to work. A lone striker always needs support, and with three in central midfield this has to come from the wide players. When he hasn't got anyone who can beat a man and cross it in, or get to the byline and cut it back, and nobody making runs around him, your lone striker has got nothing to do but play it backwards all game. He can play it backwards and wait for the ball to work its way out wide, but he won't see it coming back into the box much when there's no wingers at all!

Having no wingers is going to be a constant problem, we badly need Gutierrez back. It is madness that we started the season with 1 winger and 2 centre backs at the club but we're making it harder for ourselves by playing with one up front against these kinds of teams. We have fit strikers, play them and play on the front foot, we're playing for promotion not mid-table.

No, no , no. It was all Nicky Butt's fault.

Its not completely Nickys fault obviously. However, he is very much part of the problem as opposed to the solution

It go's to show how much protection Smith gibes our back four, the pressure they were under last night because Butt just cannot cover the ground quick enough. Also a 4-5-1 just means their CB's are under no pressure so their fullbacks can bomb forward.

Was a slip up we will have more than that this season am sure of that.
