Former Barcelona vice-president Ferran Soriano will be confirmed as Manchester City's next chief executive in succession to Garry Cook.

The Blues have been giving little away about their search for Cook's replacement following his resignation in September in the wake of a controversial email where he appeared to mock the mother of defender Nedum Onuoha.

That error in judgement left him with little choice but to step down from his post despite earning praise from City's owners for the positive work he did in the role during his time at the club.

It's being claimed down under that Australian Rugby Union boss John O'Neill had been in the running for the job but the Manchester Evening News are now reporting that has missed out to Soriano.

The 44-year-old won't be able to take up position immediately as he still has some loose ends to tie up following the collapse of Spanair last week.

That could delay his entrance to the £2m-a-year job for up to six weeks, but City are convinced he is worth waiting for.

Soriano is very well respected in the game after becoming a powerful voice in football during his spell as general manager at the Nou Camp.

He oversaw a dramatic rise in Barca's commercial success as they went from the world's 13th richest club to second behind Real Madrid as revenue soared.

Soriano? If there's a man capable of wrecking ManCity, it's him

Great P&R guy though.

Still, what a c***, he has left 4000 people on the streets due to his inept stewardship of Spanair (not entirely his fault, with the depression and all that, but still he was a horrible CEO that consistently lied about the state of the company) and he jumps straight into another big money glamour job.

Any chance of you appearing there in a few years? (NUFC placed regularly not too long ago)

I think our latest financial results released were for the Championship season. So I wouldn't be surprised to see us back up or around there when the extra revenue from being in the Premier League is taken into account.

The ones there are 2010/11 figures.

I reckon Giggs is still a really good player like. Sure, nowadays he's not as a good as he was in the days of old but he can still do a decent job imo. Can't believe he's still going and performing at the highest level. Respect tbh.

(Still a bit of a dick for what happened last year with the CTB/injunction stuff).

Well, I understand that London is a wealthier place than Barcelona, so they can squeeze more out of you. We could probably jack up our ST prices, since there's a several year waiting list, but it would be deeply unpopular.

You've got the big stadium already, we haven't started yet so we're raising money.  When it's built prices will still remain high as the stadium loans have to be paid.  Arsenal's tickets, generally speaking, are more expensive than ours.

Speaking as an away fan they aren't. At least we haven't been cat A at Spurs since we got relegated. Seem to remember it cost £48 the year we went down - same as Chelsea, think I paid £32 for Arsenal that year.

Bath City football club offers right to rename Twerton Park stadium for £50

Fans can enter a draw to rename the stadium after themselves or a family member – or choose a more mischievous name

Bigger football clubs expect to bank millions of pounds when they give up the naming rights for their stadium. But for just £50, businesses, fans and even rival supporters are being given the chance to rename Bath City's stadium.

The club suggests the winner could name the stadium after a friend, family member, a beloved past player, a charity or perhaps a newborn baby.

A worry is that the winner might also favour a more mischievous name.

The club is also encouraging traditionalists who do not hold with such frippery to enter the draw so that should they win they can keep the current name, Twerton Park.

The Bath City chairman, Manda Rigby, said the idea was that those interested would pay £50 to enter a draw. The winner would be pulled out of hat and rename the stadium as he or she saw fit.

Rigby said: "We pride ourselves on being innovative at Bath City, and the stadium name draw is just the most recent example. We hope that businesses locally and nationally will recognise the tremendous value of acquiring the naming rights to our ground for just £50 but we also want our fans and the general public to get involved as well." Rigby is entering the draw herself but for the moment keeping her choice of name secret.

The club's captain, Jim Rollo, who has made more than 450 appearances for Bath, said some of the players were also entering the draw. "I think it's a brilliant idea," he said.

Twerton Park is in the south-west of the city and has been home to the club since 1932. It has raised terraces and a view of central Bath. The club, whose most famous fan is Ken Loach, is not enjoying the best of seasons and is pretty firmly stuck at the foot of the Blue Square Bet Premier league.

Those who enter the draw will also receive four tickets for Bath's match against Forest Green Rovers on Easter Monday. The draw will take place at half-time and any traditionalists should not worry too much – the new name will last for one season, 2012/13, only.

Top footballers including Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney and Mario Balotelli set to star in prime time TV prank show

You’ve Been Framed-style show will see the stars play jokes on other players while hidden cameras capture the action

Top  Premier League footballers including Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Mario Balotelli are being lined up to star in a prime-time TV prank show.

Euro Wind-Ups will see the stars play jokes on other players while hidden cameras capture the action in a You’ve Been Framed style show.

The ITV1 show will be shown in June to coincide with England’s European Championship campaign in Poland and the Ukraine. Producers are pulling out all the stops to land some of the biggest names in football.

It is believed Man United’s Ferdinand, 33, may be lead mischief-maker as he starred in a similar show called Rio’s World Cup Wind-Ups in 2006.

A TV source said: “This has the potential to be absolutely massive.

“A good prank is part of the dressing-room culture in the British game, so footballers are more than qualified to star in the show.”

MERK'D.
