Did Wolves concede the game to Man Utd

10 changes from previous game.

Did Mccarthy decide he couldnt win with his best side, and so rest them for other games he believes they can win.

If this is the case, what does it say about the league. Are teams now disregarding the fixtures against the so called big 4, and then concentrate on the clubs they see as thiewr direct rivals.  whats the point in being in the same division? Are the Top clubs really so far ahead?

Here's hoping they go down on the last day of the season with one of their rivals beating an under-strength top team resting players for a Champions League Final or whatever.

Merson was just saying something similar on SSN.

Section E, rule 20 says: "In every league match each participating club shall field a full strength team."

Pretty hard to enforce that though.

Harder to enforce with the "big" teams as their reserves are still better than most of the rest of the league. With teams like Wolves though, it's very much obvious they didn't field a team with the intent to win the match.

from mick mc carthy's point of view, i can see why he did it, for a team like wolves premiership survival is the whole aim. highly unlikely they were going to get anything at OT and with a game against burnley at the weekend, 3 points there is imperative. its not what id like to see, teams effectively resigning to defeat but with the money of the premier league, its always going to happen. Man United are absolutely miles ahead of wolves, and wolves are desperate just to stay up.

It certainly isn't right, but tbf to Mick McCarthy he's not the first manager to do it and he certainly won't be the last.

Some pundits barely bat an eyelid when one of the 'big four' do it.

If the bottom 8 or so teams all took that attitude then what is the point in them being in the Premier League.  Resting one or two is OK but to change 10 after a good win at Spurs when Man Utd are currently more vulnerable than usual is riduculous.  They are fortunate to have only been beaten 3-0 but goal difference could come into it and a stronger team might have lost by less.

When they get round to acting on Man Utd(v West Ham) and Liverpool(v Fulham) leaving both teams to survive relegation at Shef Utd's expense they can start complaining imo.

End of the day they were highly unlikely to get anything at OT so protecting players against injury/suspension in such a game especially after a very welcome surprise at Spurs is a good plan(although against the spirit of the game)

Of course if they dont beat Burnley at home then its arguably a wasted exercise

Another disturbing development and another really sad day for football as finance and premiership survival become the be all and end all.

Its bad enough playing under strength teams in the cup competitions and now this.

You have to ask what is the point of bothering at all when it comes to this. The whole point of playing in the top division  and one of the highlights is when you go to places like Old Trafford and play against and test yourself against the top teams - thats what football is all about.

An absolute disgrace and the Wolves fans I know who went up last night (3,000 of them went up) are really angry about it. No wonder they were singing ' We want our money back'

Manchester United also did it at Hull on that horrible day last season.

Its lucky Burnley didnt think like that isnt it.

Moronic to not even try, doesnt matter if the odds are stacked against you. Shouldnt give up a game at any point let alone before it even starts, embarassingly defeatist.

My mate went up for this one, he is pissed off he paid £42 to watch the reserves play, he's pissed off with Mick McCarthy's negative attitude, he thinks they could have got a point with their first team. He said anything but a victory at Burnley now and he will be furious!

Also, is it just me or is this Man Utd side quite beatable? Theyre relying on a mid-30's player Giggs as their main creativity, their defence is knacked and Rooney doesnt have a partner upfront...theyre alot poorer than the league suggests

Did nowt wrong in my opinion,  Big game against Burnley this weekend. Whichever team he would have put out, they would have got beat.

Completely agree. Wolves clearly threw the game because they didnt believe they had any chance to win it. However i believe they should have given it a go seeing Man Utd look far more vulnerable this year than in previous years and were even defeated by burnley earlier in the season, anything is possible.

Yes they did but they didn't expect to pick up 3 pts against Spurs, so had 3 points more then they expected.

Fair play to them.

Yep, Hull went and won at Arsenal & Spurs which effectively kept them up. Imagine if Phil Brown had rested his big players like Geovanni for those games to keep him for the likes of ourselves and Boro? We'd have still been in the division. :(
