Lotus
Before today we'd played four games since his return, winning three of them and keeping clean sheets in each win. He's not fantastic but he's a solid third-choice defender. Bad day at the office today from the whole team. Agree. Tbf, the tactics we employed just exposed him today. I'm not sure that's entirely down to Pardew either because it seemed like our midfield stopped pressing hard which gave their midfield to time to pick a pass. I'm sure Pardew didn't tell the players to stand off at the same time as keeping a super high line!
Beren
Got found out today, I'm afraid. Not significantly more so than any other of our slow backline. Pardew's high line got found out today. Again.
Guest Big Al
He is a Premier League standard CB...barely. But if we are aiming for European football and challenge the top 6 we need to upgrade. Not at all. He is just tall and win headers. On the other hand he's f***ing slow, his technique is non-existent and often loses the physical battles. What PL standard for f**k sake??? NEEJ
He's a disgrace of a centre half tbh...shockingly slow, always static and square on to the forwards and is incapable of heading the ball further than 5 yards....the sooner we get a decent defender in the better What a mug. Nah not at all Coloccini is forever covering for his lack of pace and ability, this inturn leaves holes all over the park where hes dragged out of position....championship player at best Load of shite that like. Tachikoma
Well, that's how it is when we play a high line with two slow CBs.
Guest palnese
Good defender, but will, bot him and Colo, struggle against players with pace. Hardly shocking.
wormy
Average CB doesn't have solid games every week shocker.

Stu
Bad game, decent defender. FWIW he was similarly poor at Bolton last year

littlelunchbox
our whole back four was fucking shit. there absolutely no way any of our defenders could have looked good if we play kamikazi highline and no shape defence.
littlelunchbox
how many games has willo played this season??? and he still had more good games compared to turds like ameobi.

Tsunami
He's slow and can't play football. He's an ok stopper but our failure to change our high line left him woefully exposed. Pardew had a shocker 2nd half.
Skirge
No good in a high line back four vs pace, not putting him down its just a fact.
Stu
No good in a high line back four vs pace, not putting him down its just a fact. True, I don't think that was a good tactic (it didn't work v West Brom) - we got caught out at the end of the first half with the Santon booking, but no-one seemed to make an adjustment, why? Skirge
Its even harder to play the high line with no Tiote to protect them, its not like we lost a lightening fast CB when Taylor got injured.

Sifu
Poor today (as was most of the team really). But some of the overreactions on here man! Bloody hell

The same can be said about the 2nd.
Parky
Williamson was very fragile today, there is no hiding that fact.
ExiledGeordie
Williamson is a good defender but he got exposed by that high line badly. To be fair I think the whole defence had a shocker today, we just seemed to crumble. Willo has done well recently, some ridiculous overreactions going on. He like pretty much the whole team had a shocker second half. Move on, next game.
Skirge
Taylor would have had enough sense to have a chat with Colo and drop a bit deeper, thats the thing, its ok playing to tactics but as a player your in the game and should be able to see the danger of us playing a high line against a pacey striker.
