Realistic Transfer Targets Summer 2010

You what? My point is, if they are the first-choice pair at Portmsouth, erm, they're at the crux of the side who've just finished rock bottom in the Premier League. By a long way, too. Are you seriously advocating taking them out and putting them into ours? Aye, i know it's a team effort n all that, but centre-midfield is the very heart of the side.

To be fair they were docked 9 points which means they've had nothing to play for since March.

Jonjo is going to Liverpool.

Signs for them today for about £1.7 million + add ons.

Thats such a bad choice of club to go to for a young British footballer. Liverpool's record over the last 10 years of developing youth players, especially British ones, is terrible. I'd go as far as to say its worse than ours. In fact, I can't think of ANY who have stepped up to Premiership level.

I think it is bad in that where the fuck is going to play atm or are they grooming as the next Stevie Gee. I have noticed Liverpool have increased there English players of late with signings like Shev, Sterling & Johnson.

He'll probably be on the bench due to next season's 'Home Grown' rule, hardly get a game, be loaned out to some random clubs. Have a few good games, come back to Liverpool and have Andy Grey say 'Well he hasn't lived up to his promise, has he?'

And here's me thinking Rafa always has no money to spend. Thats two players they've signed already and the window isn't even open.

Sssshhhhh, the Liverpool fans will come back with "but we sold some players 15 years ago" line.

Keane never seems to be short of interested clubs, but he always seems to fall short of expectations and get moved on.

I wouldn't say he's in decline as a player, but I think his kind of striker is not as useful in the modern game as it used to be. It's the Owen problem - a specialist finisher who plays in advanced positions but who isn't a target man. As well as scoring, top level strikers now need to be either good at holding the ball up, or good at dropping deep and creating.

That's my take on it.

I don't agree with your view of Keane. He is a player who like to drop deep and get onto the ball, which is the sort of player we need.

The age/price is and issue though.

Who is the other?

Reo-Coker fits the bill really. Jason Roberts on the otherhand would be amongst the most pointless signings i've seen us make, regardless of the price.

Out of interest, why would Roberts be a pointless signing?

Because he's old, an average footballer, and doesn't score many goals. We need a striker that will make a significant impact.

When you consider he starts most matches on the bench I wouldn't have expected him to score that many goals ... He may be 32 but he's still fast and strong and this is something that we don't have in any of our strikers.

How can he join them on May 10th when the transfer window doesn't open until July? ???

Is it not just that he can't be registered until July. i.e He can join the squad and whatever, but will just be ineligible until he is registered...
