Bristol City vs Newcastle 5:20pm Sat 20/03/10 pre-match thread - Live on Sky

Recommended Posts

Im so sick of Skysports showing our away games on tv where we play boring and negative football. Hopefully now that we've got serious threats on each wing again with Routledges return we might play a little bit more attacking/exciting football.

0-1, Carroll Header early on, hanging on for dear life for the rest of the match.

If Loven is out, I'd go for:

                        Harper

Simpson-------Hall----Colo----Enrique

Pancrate----Nolan---Guthrie--Jonas

                  Routledge

                            Carroll

More likely;

                      Harper

Simpson    Colo      Hall    Enrique

              Guthrie    Nolan

Routledge                          Jonas

              Best        Carroll

think we'll make a few changes 2moro

                        HARPER

  R TAYLOR    HALL    COLO      JOSE

ROUTLEDGE  BUTT    NOLAN    JONAS

                  BEST    CARROLL

got a feeling that Simpson will get a break, he's limped off the pitch 2 games on the trot and think Guthrie will get "rested".  Best will come in for the injured lovenkrands.

Butt will have a really solid game but still gets slaughtered on here!! lol ;-)

I will never bet on us to win a game if Butt is confirmed in the starting Xl.

I'm the same, the alternative is playing Best up front and that doesn't make me feel much more confident.

Ranger up front is surely the better option? Gives him some more first team experience and he shows alot more interest and ability than Best. Mind you, unfortunately that's probably third in Hughton's list of options.

Official website reckons Shola started training yesterday. Assume that means he'll be in contention for Doncaster on Tuesday but this game will be too soon. Also says Smith is expected to miss the trip to Bristol City.

Hope Shola never starts above Loven.

Good. We're not missing Smith nor Shola. With Smith being out I can really see Barton returning to the bench.

I think that is what he'll go for. I'd personally take a gamble with the under used and under rated (by some) Nile Ranger instead of Best. He needs to gain experience by playing more. But best is CH's signing so can't see it personally.

If he plays Butt instead of Guthrie its a big step backwards for the team and could cost us points.

Butt, Smith and Nolan are all pretty equally slow, static and fairly ineffective in the middle. The only difference is Nolan has that lovely knack of sticking the ball in the back of the net and has scored 13 goals, which is impressive, so it may as well be him that starts with Guthrie, who is looking more and more impressive now he's stating to settle in his preffered position.

This is a game I expect us to dominate. We should be looking to take advantage of their situation by playing very offensive. :kinnear:

Our away performances certainly offend me.

We're playing away so it'll be 4-5-1.

That could be a mistake as we are playing well and with such confidence at the moment. As Enrique said in his post above yours. We should just go for it. Carroll needs someone up front with him prefferably with pace. We always seem to make things hard for ourselves when we play 451 to accomodate Butt, Smith and Nolan. I'm thinking Jonas and Routledge should really tear into them and create alot for us..

                    Harper

Simpson    Hall    Coloccini    Enrique

        Guthrie  Nolan  R Taylor

Routledge                              Jonas

                      Carroll

*Hughton will probably put Butt in for R Taylor but out of principle, I refuse to put him in!

This was always a tricky match, but with the liberation they might get from a sacked manager and with that really tall Maierhofer I'm worried. Would love a draw here. an optimistic 2-2
