Anyone else worried about this guy?

 

Particularly how quiet the club have been about him since his injury recurrence...

 

Huh? He's out for the season.

 

Did the club announce that?  I must have missed it.  I know his knee flaired up again, but I didn't realise I was out for the season.

Gosling has targeted a return to action before the end of the current campaign, although he is prepared to wait until next season if it means ensuring he has an uninterrupted year.

 

"I still want a few games before the end of the season and will be working as hard as I can to do that," said Gosling.

 

"If the knee's not ready I will have to wait, but if it is then hopefully if I get a chance I will take it with both hands.

 

"The main aim is to be fit for pre-season though. I don't want to have any niggles or anything like that. I want to get through it fine and then hopefully get a full season under my belt."

 

Can't see us bothering tbh.

Don't think his original treatment was done correctly, and it had to be corrected. Another long process to get him feeling comfortable and back. I'm happy enough with him as a um... 'new signing' for next season.

Chelsea have shown some class, though, and have offered him to put him through his coaching badges and a coaching role.  :thup:

Good news if true although a little out of the blue. May I enquire as to where this information has come from? This is Newcastle United mind so even if he is supposedly 'in contention' for this game, the chances of him actually making it are very slim!

As long as he's ready I'd be quite happy to see him get a few mins here and there. It's been a tough season for him, this is a nice end to it for him if he can get some game time to build on for next season.

 

Also I can see him working hard though the summer to keep his fitness up and should be flying for the new campaign as long as the injury doesn't flair up again.

Think we'll see him and Ben Arfa given a few late cameos and the old 'they're like two new signings' line to be peddled a fair bit this summer. Actually makes this season more remarkable that really the only difference between our Championship winning side and this season is Tiote and Barton being available.

HIS dream date in Denmark dashed, Dan Gosling is eyeing further England honours now that he is on the road to recovery.

 

Twice-capped Gosling would have been in the mix for Stuart Pearce’s squad for the summer European Championships until the serious knee injury he suffered in March last year.

 

‘Psycho’ even enquired about his availability at the turn of the year – only to be told Gosling wouldn’t be back in time for the finals in Denmark.

 

His tender years mean the 21-year-old should at least have a crack at the next Euros in Israel in two years’ time.

 

“I would love to go to Denmark this year, but I just don’t think it’s fair on myself or the lads out there,” he said.

 

“I’ll be fit, but maybe not 100% like some of them. I won’t be 100% this season and it is tough to be playing catch-up – every player needs a pre-season to get them up to scratch.

 

“If the call came, great. But the physio here is Derek Wright, who is also with England Under-21s and told Stuart Pearce what the craic was with me.

 

“I think they’ve ruled it out now, so I have to accept that, but if the call came, I’d happily take it.”

 

Disappointment has been doubled because England have a real chance of winning in Scandinavia.

 

Finalists last time out, they can pick from a crop of players with Premier League experience.

 

“Stuart Pearce has picked me a few times, but it’s a great squad they’ve got now. I think they’ve got a great chance,” Gosling said.

 

“Most of the players they’ve picked are playing regular football in the Premier League, which is some going. They’ve got a big chance to go all the way – I’d love to be part of it.”

 

Progress as planned, and the 2013 tournament in Israel is a realistic target.

 

Gosling said: “I’m available for the next European Championships. It is a strange thing but I think I should be available.

 

“James Milner once played when he was 24 or something! It is weird how it works, but if it means a major tournament, you’re not going to turn it down.”

Dan Gosling is taking the final steps on the long road to recovery from a cruciate ligament injury. Chief Sports Writer Mark Douglas spoke exclusively to Desperate Dan.

 

THINGS got pretty Desperate for Dan Gosling when his fragile right knee ballooned up and left him unable to move after an aborted comeback attempt.

 

At the turn of the year things seemed rosy for the likeable England Under-21 tyro as he prepared to relaunch his injury-hit career. Supposedly back fit and bursting to make his mark after eight-and-a-half months on the sidelines with a ruptured cruciate, the Devonian hoped his injury agony was a thing of the past.

 

But then the dream derby debut disintegrated into a devastating setback for the Newcastle new boy – and in his darkest hours he discovered redemption in a Desperate Housewives DVD.

 

“I thought the injury problems were all over so the extra four months have been agony,” fit-again Gosling admits to the Sunday Sun.

 

“I knew things weren’t right looking back but you’re desperate to be part of it. And to get a taste of it in a derby against Sunderland only made it harder to have to start again.

 

“It was boring at first, being back in the gym doing the same exercises I was doing eight months ago. Three, four weeks of the same stuff – it’s boring and repetitive even though you know it has got to be done.

 

“So I got through a few box sets to pass the time. I battled a few of the lads at FIFA but after that it was the DVD box-sets all the way. I reckon I’ve ticked them all off now. I’ve been through every season of Entourage, I’ve done Prison Break from series one to four and 24 as well.

 

“I was even on Desperate Housewives by the end! I probably shouldn’t admit that but they’re good to be honest, just watch them if you don’t believe me!

 

“Seriously they kept me going, kept the clock ticking while I couldn’t go out and do what I wanted to do – which was play football for a living.”

 

From Wisteria Lane to coping with Wayne, Gosling is now eyeing a comeback to coincide with treble hunters Manchester United and their returning star Rooney hitting Toon. And before anyone accuses him of jumping the gun, this time he has been careful to pace himself before staking his claim for a first-team return.

 

Confidence in his own fitness comes from the way he has recovered from a second operation in the wake of the Sunderland game.

 

In comparison to the reconstructive surgery he had a year ago, it was a pretty routine procedure. Trim the cartilage, drain some fluid and then hit the exercise bike again in preparation for his return to training.

 

He finally rejoined the rest of the squad on Wednesday morning and, burning lungs aside, he feels like a new man.

 

“I’m feeling fine now,” he said.

 

“My lungs are burning a bit but the knee feels fine – it feels strong. I trained for the first time on Wednesday and it felt good, it felt great.

 

“This time I’ll take it slowly - no setbacks and no rushing things. If I get a game before the end of the season, great. If I have to wait until next season, so be it.

 

“I would love to play against Manchester United, I’m available if needed. It’s not my decision, but if the manager, physios and coaches get together and decide I can, then I’ll make myself available.

 

“It does feel very different to last time. Leading up to the game, in training, it never really felt right to be honest. The problem was floating cartilage apparently and I didn’t feel right at all.

 

“I needed half-an-hour’s treatment every time I’d been training just to loosen it up. And then every morning it was stiff again – I couldn’t move my leg.

 

“Playing in the Sunderland game was maybe the wrong decision, looking back.

 

“But it was no-one’s fault and it didn’t set me back at all because if I hadn’t played, I’d still have needed the operation.”

 

While his knee might have healed, the desperation to prove himself after a cloak-and-dagger summer move from Everton remains undimmed. Both Gosling and Newcastle risked plenty to bring him to Tyneside, and justifying the faith of his new employers is a major motivation – especially after the way his delayed debut panned out.

 

“I think it was five minutes and I don’t know how many times I kicked the ball,” he said, referring to his late cameo in the Wear-Tyne derby back in January.

 

“It was a great feeling to get on the pitch in such a big game – pulling a Newcastle shirt on was just brilliant.

 

“But it wasn’t exactly the perfect start because Sunderland went and scored after I came on! It was just unfortunate – we fully deserved the win.

 

“My Newcastle career so far is five minutes, one goal conceded! I’ve got to put that right. I’m sure I’ll put that behind me soon enough though.

 

“When I look back, it has been 10 months since the first op – that is a long, long time. Hopefully it won’t be much longer now.

 

“A lot of people have believed in me to get me this move so I’m desperate to get out there and repay their faith.”

errr England U21 regular — from what I understand he was only called into their squad as a last minute replacement and he was an injury time substitute for his only U21 cap.
