David28
France, mainly because of Zidane. Best player I have ever seen play. He could do everything on the ball.
Guest firetotheworks
I'm starting to think that Xavi is more useful than Zidane was. I love Zidane, what he did had an absolute grace to it, and he's one of the best I've ever seen. But Xavi is for me the best midfielder of my generation, an absolute genius of a passer, and probably the most useful player of the last 10 years. ads
To me France 1998 and Spain 2010 have many similarities. Great football nations, perennial underachievers, one-time world cup winner, and the same team also won European Championship. The great French team won World Cup 1998 (hosted in France) and European Championship 2000 This great Spanish team won European Championship 2008 and World Cup 2010 The French team have Zidane, Vieira, Henry, Desailly, Thuram etc The Spanish team have Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Torres, Puyol, Casillas etc Which team would rank higher, 50 years later ? I think some of you guys are a bit premature posting your prefernce now. I'll attempt to come back to this thread and submit my vote when I'm 78. Granted, I'll probably be pissing my pants, dribbling and won't remember what happened 5 minutes ago, let alone 50 years. But I'll certainly try. Guest firetotheworks
I didn't. I didn't see an awful lot of Barca last season. If you find it, PM me.
Guest gggg
Easily France. Arguably the best defence of any winner and Zidane, Henry going forward. Even the worst Guivarch did more than Torres.
Skirge
France.. they were more of a goal threat, Spain do keep the ball well and play great football but at times they just look as they are going nowhere fast

Skeletor
I don't remember being impressed with France until the final of 98. I never thought they were real contenders most of the way through and I still think had Ronaldo been on his game that Brazil would have won that final. Spain dominated their way through this tournament taking out some very tough teams on the way.

Guest neesy111
Also, apart from how Zidane schooled Brazil in the final, France wasn't that dominating. I think people take the final's performance (indeed one of the finest) and extend it to the whole tournament. this, france we're shocking in some games in that tournament! their main striker didn't score a goal
Village Idiot
Incidentally does this mean that Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Pique, Pedro, Casillas, and possibly Ramos have now won it all? Casillas/Ramos haven't won the Spanish cup (Real Madrid hasn't won that in a looong time). Pedro didn't really play much the treble season for the first squad. But yeah, the Barça core have won every f***ing trophy possible. Mind numbing. I also profoundly agree with people saying that the Euro winning teams (2000 and 2008) were far better than the WC winning ones. And I think Spain edges that. Guest firetotheworks
Brazil in 1994 were the last truly great side to win the World Cup. They won it on penalties Don't get me wrong, they were great. But they weren't the last truly great side to win the WC. Spain were, and before that Brazil in '02 were.

Look back on this Spanish team in 10-15 years on a World Cup 2010 montage, the passing, the movement, the touches and then they'll be seen as 'a great team'. Super Duper Branko Strupar
1. Spain 2008 2. Spain 2010 3. France 2000 4. France 1998 Aye, totally! France weren't flamouyant enough for me, even though they had as much a defensive midfield as spain did, they didn't have the passing. I think defensively France may just edge it, but spain defended better as a team in keeping the ball, having a structure, men always seeming to be around to put on pressure or steal the ball. Its hard because its personal choice, but I def agree France 2000 were better than 98 and I think both spain sides were better than them so....
