Superior Acuña
I definitely would, yes. If we'd not equalised this week I'd have had us going down. Hopefully that goal does something though.
Yorkie
One million% yes now. I'm worried for the future at the minute - we're gonna need a severe boost in January and i hope Ashley is willing to put some money on the table. The current team isn't good enough to stay up. I thought it was, but it isn't.
nobby_solano
well 1 point from 3 home games against stoke, blackpool and wigan is pretty poor like. i'd take 17th place, especially if i thought there was a chance sunderland would get 18th

Kaizero
Naturally, given the option between relegation and 17th place I'd choose 17th place and as the season goes I'd be more considerate towards wanting to "choose" a 17th finish. But as things stand, I still would gamble on finishing higher than 17th come May. We don't have great players, but neither does a lot of other clubs, and if we can manage to get higher than these clubs it would be logical that we would be a more attractive destination for future transfers and thus we can build a better team and start getting better and better from season to season. I think this group of lads have it in them to finish in the range of 14-15, and I think they will show that as the season progress. I'll obviously change my opinion when I get proven wrong by our shit players, mind. And I'll be adamant I never posted this.
alpal78
Still would even after yesterday unless we can rectify our home form we will be in the mix come end of the season and that's a risk I'm not willing to take. Last time we went down, players like Enrique, Jonas, Colo for some reason decided to stick around which was what prevented a spiral or a prolonged stint in the championship. I'm less certain they would stick around should we go down again and we'll probably lose them on the cheap too coz we wont be able to afford their wages. Also IMO most people who say that they want to wait a bit more before deciding are missing the point of the question. The whole idea is would you take safety early on in exchange for the unpredictability (which could see us relegated or getting much higher than 17th). If we were to wait till we are in the bottom 3 or upper mid table with 5 games to go, then question won't be relevant anymore.

I'm ambitious, probably more ambitious than I should be. That said, I'm a shit gambler, so me backing us finishing higher than 17th is probably the kiss of death. Guest
Only 2 games this season (Stoke & Wigan) have I thought we look out of our depth here and like a newly promoted side. The rest of the time we've looked like a Sunderland, Bolton, Fulham, etc.
Colocho
Yes. Still would. Beating the worst team in the league isn't something to get too excited about.

AyeDubbleYoo
I would be (a bit) disappointed if we finished that low at the end of the season, but if I could guarantee survival now then I would probably take it. I couldn't face another season in the Championship, and losing some of our best players.

Tsunami
Absolutely, one or 2 key injuries and we'd be knacked.
Guest
Would you not call Harper, Ben Arfa, Simpson and Taylor key injuries? They've missed a big chunk and yet we're still top half.

I would say that the players who stayed through relegation will now be seeing that we can mix it in the Premiership. If we're unlucky enough to finish 17th then it might be disappointing for them, but I doubt it would make anyone leave.

Yes, it really depends who the injuries are. Enrique, Carroll or Jonas would be disastrous obviously. We have done well to cope with the players we've had out so far though. If we lost Tiote, Barton n Carroll or any 2 of them I'd snap your hand off for 17th. At some point they'll all get suspended n Carroll may yet get himself a holiday at HMS.
