sempuki
Jesus. Good luck Jonas. A round of applause in the 18th minute would be great. no Why not?
Guest Roger Kint
Jesus. Good luck Jonas. A round of applause in the 18th minute would be great. no Why not? Already do the 17th minute, nobody would notice it was for Jonas if it continued, most would give up as well
St1pe
Awful news to see first thing on a morning. He's been a fantastic servant to the club that's always given everything despite his limitations and deserves some sort of tribute or gesture to support him while he's going through this. sempuki
Is the 17th minute applause now a permanent thing?
Belfast Boy
What time did this all break in relation to the team photo yesterday? It would have been nice if the players could have done something for him, like an unofficial version of the photo all wearing spiderman masks. I suppose it all broke too late though
El Hozzo
so instead of applause on the 18th minute (which were be merged with the 17th minute applause), something else ... shout for 'Jonas' for one minute, or Spiderman theme ...

Better option would be to sing his song straight after the minutes applause(assuming it still goes on now) Breaks up a 2 minute clap and ensures people know what it is for
LRD
I was wondering why 'Greyhound' kept coming up in Google Translate for those articles. Turns out it's his Spanish nick.

Thomson Mouse
People need to calm down a bit about this and not let the anti-Pardew sentiment affect this. I have read elsewhere that it was explained that Jonas wanted to go back to Argentina for treatment so he could discuss things with his Dr in Spanish and he didn't mind forking out for this himself. Apparently it was kept under wraps with Coloccini and a few other Argentinian players knowing about it. The club could have easily have said 'go and sort yourself out', hence the possibly lost in translation bit of Pardew telling him to leave (i.e. go home). Tbh I'd be surprised if anyone in the club was that callous to do something like people are thinking, especially after the way the handled the Liam and John situation. Most people seem to know or at least speculate that Jonas isn't getting played because of his contract. Just by mis-interpreting what was written things could be taken an entirely different way so I think we need to wait for a bit more info before hammering the club for this. Minhosa
Totally agree TM.
AyeDubbleYoo
I assumed that was the case. We're bad, but we're not going to sack off a guy after finding out he has cancer.
ED209
Jonas always seemed like a really good bloke and always appeared to give 100%, i hope it all works out for him!
Stuy_O
The club have obviously let him go to be with his family and keep himself to himself whilst he battles this, which is absolutely fair. some of our supporters seem to misinterpret things to the extreme at times, instead of actually thinking it through. We're all fed up with Pardew and Ashley but this about thinking about one of ours, and crossing everything he pulls through.
Wullie
Pardew didn't tell him to leave, i.e. go home though. He told him to find another club. Whether you think that was right or wrong, Jonas has been very clear on the issue.
Stuy_O
Wasn't that before he was diagnosed?
AyeDubbleYoo
I don't doubt he was told he was surplus to requirements but I assume/hope we're talking about two separate issues.

Wullie
Wasn't that before he was diagnosed? No, it was in January after he'd come back from treatment.
Wullie
From January: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/norwichs-jonas-gutierrez-newcastle-exit-3029641 “The manager told me in December I was not going to play any more and told me to find myself another club. “I don’t know why it happened and I still don’t understand what I did wrong. “There were no rows with Alan Pardew or anything like that. He just said I needed to leave and that was that. “I honestly don’t know why I wasn’t playing, you will have to ask the manager that. He just made his decision and that was it. Something must have happened – but I don’t know what.”Gutierrez knew the writing was on the wall when he was left out of the FA Cup third round tie against Cardiff. He admitted: “I was hoping I would get an opportunity in the cup. But instead I was left sitting in the stand. I was not even named in the squad for the game. So after that I knew it was all over for me. For five years before that I had always been in the starting XI. Then suddenly I wasn’t even in the squad. “I still don’t know why and I don’t think I will ever understand it. It’s how football is and you just have to get on with it.” This tallies up with the new interview. Regardless of whether you think the club are in the wrong, what's very clear is that Jonas is unhappy with how he's been treated.
AyeDubbleYoo
Oh sure, but it seems a purely football decision, whatever you think of the rights and wrongs.
