Bolton 5 - 1 Newcastle United - 20/11/10 - post match reaction from page 32

No Barton, Tiote and Ben Arfa, 3 of our most influential players, Smith and Guthrie short on match practice (admittedly this generally makes sod all difference with Smith) and away to the 5th best team in the counrty (and they've been playing like it) - any newly promoted side always has the potential to get thumped at some point in the season and this at least is an understandable thumping.

Results like this make me feel sick, it's just criminal the way they have went about it. I only got in to watch the second half and I couldn't believe how dejected some of the players looked, smith has never played a good game yet so is always dejected imo and needs sold for whatever we can get, not an over-reaction, the bloke is gash literally.

As I've said when nolans not scoring goals I struggle to see anything he offers to the team but what can you do. We have a best XI and as soon as one of the cogs falls out the machine stops running, the fact two of the biggest and most influential are out at the same time has catastrophic f*** up written all over our team.

Sum it up it's only 1 game and we need the reaction now, hughton needs to hoy some water bottles off heads and leave them with a tanned arses because we are looking like s*** atm.

P.s Danny Guthrie

People are pissed off because the same mistakes are being repeated. Daft substitutions at the wrong time and the selection of Alan Smith. I don't care who's injured, he's a f***ing liability.

And if Barton wasn't an idiot against Blackburn Hughton wouldn't have that problem.

So it's Barton's fault that Hughton picks the wrong players in his absence?

If you're the one that's forced the question to be answered, then yes.

How ridiculous is that?

Not at all, Barton didn't get injured, or make an honest challenge. Hughton might have been the one to pick Smith/Guthrie, but the root of the problem still lies with Barton for punching Pedersen.

Nolan getting the 1 over Smith because he contributed to the match, even if it was giving them a pen

It's Barton's fault for putting his manager in a position where he has to pick from a pool of player who are sadly probably not good enough.

What the hell did punching Pedersen achieve other than helping us to drop a few more points in the last few games.

Same with Colo today and his inevitable three match ban.  The players are hardly helping Hughton in this respect.

That's all well and good. But you can't wrap Hughton in cotton wool and claim it isn't his fault simply because his options are limited. He's the f***ing manager, not a poster on here struggling to post a starting Xl in the pre-match thread.

People expect us to lose to superior teams, even badly. What people don't expect, is to see the same mistakes to be repeated and points thrown away before the first whistle is blown.

So, what you're basically saying is:

If Barton had got injured instead of suspended, the blame would shift from him to Hughton for picking Smith?

Then why are you wrapping Barton in cotton wool and going straight to Hughton, it's a two way street.

Was at the boozer and Soccer Saturday got flipped on at 4-1. Anyone care to tell me what the f*** happened?

The back four were terrible, the centre midfield were non-existent, and Coloccini decided to revert back to 2008.

It's not like Routledge and Best are the answers to our prayers though is it? Bring those two in and get beat and everyone would be saying bring back Guthrie and Shola.  The fact is that the squad isn't big enough/strong enough yet and you wouldn't expect it to be at this stage of Hughton's reign.

Hughton will take blame throughout the season and so he should when he deserves it.  But people have to accept this season wont be plain saling.

sounds like a nightmare match. trying to remain positive here.....

we normally defend well and we didnt. jose is normally immense and he wasnt. we havnt conceded many penalties lately and we did. we had no tiote, no barton and our central midfield had nolan + smith. factor in our terrible record at the reebok.....of course we lost! it just sounds like one of those days where it all goes wrong. the worry is that we're without coloccini for 3 games, but tbh now theres a reason to play campbell or taylor  today was a one-off and we can beat chelsea next week. mind you, we really have to win that one.

we have the sort of personalities in our squad that'll react well to this. maybe they needed a wake up call.

So saying that the selection of Smith falls on Hughton's shoulders is me 'wrapping Barton in cotton wool'?

Daft.

This is probably a daft question given everyone's opinion of the game, but did we attempt to play any passing/possession football at any time?

First ten minutes or so. We had the ball much more and passing it around nicely. All just rapidly went to pieces.
