Zero
Put it simple. The majority of our players are nth but average EPL players. Pardew has been excellent in bringing out their best by using a very rigid and narrow tactics, even though it is relatively one-dimensional and inflexible. So could we play better by using other tactics? Well sure we could always argue "we can do this and do that together and become perfect in every area", but in reality, I don't think so, unless we could sign 3-4 players in Cabaye-calibre and completely overhaul our centre defender (including Saylor) and our right side. Could we do so? We need tons of luck, because Ashley would not do it unless there's bargaining deals or loop holes, we all know that. Tiote, Colo, Cabaye, Ba, Cisse, HBA, Santon, Krul - would any of these players look out of place in a top 6, or even top 4 side? Sure, squad depth is a problem but the majority of these players have been available throughout the season, and the results certainly show it. Krul, Colo, Tiote, Cabaye and Ba would do that, doubtful for the rest. Cisse clearly hasn't settled in yet, he contributes very little in open play and shown a lack of understanding about his teammates. Santon and HBA have been very inconsistent (well clearly you can say it's Pardew's fault) I don't think they can be regarded as starter for a top 6 side yet. I am not going to mention Man Utd, Man City and Spurs. They are clearly a class above every team else. That leaves Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. Arsenal has the most in form striker at the moment, a GK that is destined to be great, the Belgium captain, a very reliable right back, Song, Walcott, Ox. They are just mentally not good enough, but except Tiote I don't think any of the players above could start for Arsenal. Cabaye or Colo perhaps. Chelsea? They are their own enemies. Not squad depth issue, but political issues. That's a team that even Torres have to be benched. Again, Tiote is the only one up for them, no one else. Take a look at Liverpool's squad. They got a good centre back partnership, a great GK, a racist c*** in the highest order, an unproductive but lively winger, a corner kick specialist, and a classy and cunty Gerrard. They do have a better squad, at least in squad depth. So to say we have lots of players that could walk into other top 6 team squad isn't that right. Squad player isn't a problem, but starting? Arguable. What I see is we have a strong spine that could do a job against the other top 6 clubs, but other than that we are just plain average. Players like Raylor, Saylor, Simpson, Guthrie, Williamson, Obertan, Perch, or even Jonas, simply shouldn't start if we want to be Top4 challengers. Our success these season is mainly due to Pardew successfully take out the best from those average players so that we play as a team (well, a very dull team sometimes) which always on top of those clubs out of top 6, and we gained lots of points here. We have been unbelievably consistent in our performance this season, even though recently there's sign of getting worse. But then to say we have a squad that can have a go against the other top6 clubs? At least 4-5 signings behind, at least.

midds
Good x 2. We undoubtedly having a very good season but that doesn't mean Pardew is beyond criticism. If he's making glaring mistakes then he's got to expect a bit of flack. The quality of football we're playing is poor, the Ben Arfa riddle, bypassing midfield, the Obertan obsession...it all adds up. He obviously deserves more time but he needs to sort the problems out.
Guest ToonZA
You can be both very grateful for the job Pardew has done thus far and very annoyed that he isn't improving... It's easy. Incorrect! You must be either Pardew's biggest fan (WE'RE SIXTH) or want him sacked immediately. Pick a side. That's the argument that gets me. O0 O0 Did a mini analysis of our results thus far and they certainly point out what certain people have been saying here. We are consistently unconvincing, minimalistic and negative in our approach and over-rely on individual brilliance. Coupled with the poor and erratic form displayed by most of the teams, particularly those that are usually regarded as Top 6, we have slipped into 6th place. Our consistently poor performances which our management team have been unable to address indicate that there is practically no chance of upward progression nor ability to remain at our current position long term. But the response to that would be the inevitable : (WE'RE SIXTH)
S.S.R.
I'd rather we finished 10th playing something I'd enjoy watching. Imagine what Brendan Rodgers could do with Carr's finds.
TheGuv
I've slept on it without posting about Pardew. This isn't kneejerk, but i'm sick of him. Yes we're 6th (WELL DONE PARDEW!!!!!!This is ALL because of you. We were in the Championship 2 years ago don't you know?), but i can count on one gangrenous hand how many games where we have deserved to win/get something out of this season. Pardew really is a Southern Allardyce with patter. At least Allardyce said he'd play hoofball. Pardew uses his salesman-like patter to tell us that we're a team that plays a good possession football, when in truth we're just a team full of hard grafters with the odd moment of individual brilliance. I couldn't wait for half time, and thought well we'll come out better in the second half. No way on earth did we deserve 2 goals from our 3 shots, yet we got them. I turned to my dad at the start of the second half and said i bloody hope this isn't going to be a repeat of Stoke under Kinnear. And yet it was. The bloke really is clueless, and there's no point regurgitating what's already been said but i can see the crowd turning on him next season. We'll probably finish 7th or 8th which will be a great success. However, next season we'll (he) be find out and the majority of fans will turn on him. Yo0u can tell already from the comments in this thread. The last couple of weeks HTT has been shot down. Funny that people are agreeing with him this week... Guest ToonZA
Voted : OK Simply because there wasnt anything between "OK" and "Crap". Dont think he has done "Crap" Would have voted "Dissapointing" if that was an option. Team has the ability to produce cohesive, convincing performances that would point towards next season being an improvement on this one, especially with a few additions. At least we not in a relegation battle.

While we do deserve to be where we are there is no sustainablity in our performances and results to show that we can maintain it season after season. Glenn Roeder got us to 7th and he is one of the worst managers I've ever seen.

ShearMagic
Sack him whilst we're 6th? Yeh. bat shit mental i know. But i hear benitez is available You mean a manager that got all of his success from playing a 4-2-3-1 with two deep lying midfielders and some defensive and boring football, exactly what Pardew is being criticised for? Darth Crooks
Must demotivate players when told to inhibit themselves. Reckon this affects performances? I do.
Guest
Wasn't good at all yesterday. Doesn't help when individuals make silly mistakes when pushing for a winner though. (I'm thinking Guthrie smacking the ball 20 yards behind Santon for a throw-in, Jonas letting a simple pass from Coloccini bounce over his foot for a throw-in, HBA running the ball out for a goal-kick inexplicably). Combination of poor tactics & players not doing the basics yesterday.
Guest BooBoo
Pards got it wrong yesterday but he was badly let down by some of his big name players. Nobody in black and White came out of that game with much credit.

Colos Short and Curlies
Gone from Brilliant to Good, and he's just scraping a good. Since the Chelsea game we've been very eratic, a couple of great performances, a couple of games with decent spells and a number of games where we've been complete dross. The league is very poor this season and we've got a great chance to make Europe (probably need the cup winners to finish top 5 mind), however I'm torn as to whether I would rather see Europe next season or use the rest of the season to try something new and give it a good run of games to bed in - heck even try something radical like seeing how Tav plays at right back or if a full back pairing of Ferguson and Santon will work. How about givign Kadar a run in the Premier League - may save a few quid on a squad CB in the summer or allow us to move Williamson on. And that's before considering building a formation to play to the best of BA, Cisse, Cabaye and Ben Arfa - you know, maybe a 4-3-3 or something unheard of like that. Tooj
What I can't understand is how things have changed so much since the first half at Fulham. That was some of the best possession football I've seen us play for a long time. Whereas now we're just served up with lumping it long in the hope that our strikers pull something out of nothing. I think the second-half of that game rattled him. Didn't know how to respond when Fulham changed things. If we'd scored a couple more in that first-half when we created a lot, I think we'd have stuck with that system.
Guest BlacknWhiteArmy
Next week is massive for him. Absolutely huge. Aye, a lot of pressure will be applied and a hell of a lot more discontent over the style of play if we lose. Needs to get it right.
Jayson
He's clearly improved us defensively. We had the best defense in England for several periods before our main Cb was injured. This with a defence also containing Danny Simpson & Ryan Taylor. Not sure how you can discard a managers worth when he achieves that. Along with Ba its the main reason for our entire season. Just not as exciting to talk about obviously.
