Is Mike Ashley the worst person ever to have been associated with NUFC?

The Top Ten Lies from Mike Ashley.

http://nufc-ashlies.blogspot.com/

Not being picky like, but for one thing, only one of those quotes is Ashley as far as I can see (about his kid where he says nothing about the police advising him in the first place, hell I would have advised him the same at the time), and two, without going through them individually, a number of them have a pretty misleading lack of context and to be frank you'd be hard pushed to call lies as such in the first place.

/Obligatory Disclaimer: Not that they're not eejits sometimes, and of course dealt with Keegan very poorly indeed.

They are not stupid, that would almost give them a cop out ( I still wouldn't want them anywhere near United)

They are calculating, dishonest (as has been proven at an independent employment tribunal ) and manipulative, sadly there are some Newcastle fans who have been suckered in by their lies.

Ashley and Llambias are as trustworthy as Coulson, Cameron and the journos from News International.

interesting post on fatboy taking money out of the club

http://www.fansonline.net/newcastleunited/article.php?id=881

Interesting but flawed. 'Repayable' doesn't mean 'will be repaid', particularly when the owner has leant money to his own company. We'll have to wait till we see the accounts.

Yeah. It's ironic when people who accuse Ashley of misleading the public then go right ahead and do the same thing.

Mike Ashley is a gambler, a man who sets aside £20 million of his own personal fortune (not a penny more mind, when it's gone it's gone) each year for gambling in casinos.  He's not a winner.  He's a man who likes the thrill of winning, but the greater thrill is in the risk.

This is, for me, what appears to set him apart from people like John Henry at Liverpool, who was quick to recognise the history of the club and proclaim his intentions to turn Liverpool into the 'winner' it was in the late '70s and '80s.  Ashley appears to have bought our football club simply for the thrill of it.  He ploughed in money from his 'gambling pot' and when it was gone it was gone.

Under the previous regime, I remember looking at the accounts as the season 2006-2007 began and thinking that we simply didn't have the finances to continue and I believe that we were close to going out of business.  So, Ashley and his millions did save us from bankruptcy, but in the end he's a gambler, not a winner, and in the long term we'll need a new owner with a winning mentality and a winning strategy if we're ever to challenge for the top honours.

So far have we had the following accounted for, for being paid by the Carroll money:

Tiote's "bumper" contract which he signed in February.

Agent fees, signing on fees and wages for "freebies" Ba and Marveaux.

Several development players (who we haven't actually signed yet, barring Abeid) who are more expensive than people think.

Transfer fee and add ons for £4.5million Yohan Cabaye plus his wages.

Money set aside for Enrique's contract in the 1 in a 100 chance he decides to stay. If not, some cash will be used for a replacement (asking where will the Enrique fee will go?).

New contract for Danny Simpson.

Revamp for the training ground.

A fucking bore hole.

Some cash set aside for January, in case we need to buy then.

It's a really good job we actually sold Carroll as I presume the club would have gone under without that cash injection.

It's a joke really, a bad start to the season and it will get messy before August is out.

It's just one excuse after another not to spend money.

I'm fully expecting as the summer goes on to hear some tripe about how our wage bill is still too high and how the Carroll money is helping ease that burden.

the accounts would bear that out, or not.

The disturbing thing for me is that they already feel the need to explain away the Carroll money at this stage - it's only Mid-July. It's like they know they're doing something shady and are covering their asses beforehand.

We can afford to spend money, but do we need to?

We remain committed to signing another striker. Once we've got him, that is it, we have signed all the players that we can probably afford to sustain over five years, plus the PL won't let us play any more than that.

This is why so many players have been told they can leave, or Pardew is willing to sell Nolan, selling improves our buying opportunities. I expect a good player to come in should we offload Smith, but no-one will match his wages.

Generally they don't. As long as 50000 turn up every week he couldn't give a flying fuck (fact) and they will. Therefore he can take the piss as long as he likes.

The ultimatum to pardew is he must finish in the top 10

That's a big ask with the squad as it currently stands.
