Darren Bent Signs for Aston Villa

£18m isn't that much for a striker who has scored 32 goals in 58 games for Sunderland in the premier league. Especially for a team like Villa who is desperatly trying to avoid relegation. They are probably secure now if they get him.

If he scores. Very strange move for the player.

How is this a good price for the mackems? They bought him for £10m and he scores the majority of their goals (although he's having a poor spell at the minute). They're pushing for Europe and in a world where Milner and Lescott go for a combined £50m......this is a bad price.

How can Villa be tight on money with O'Neill so he walks, then splash £18m on Bent?

They could have kept O'Neill and gave him that kind of money and be sitting in 6th right now instead of near the bottom.

He clearly didn't like living there, he has been more to Newcastle in his time there then in Sunderland.

No one wants to live in Sunderland if they could choose.

Bent's a funny one. He's a very good striker, but I don't think he's ever formed an effective partnership with anybody, so you're basically consigned to 451 if you want to play him, and I'm not sure if he scores enough goals on his own to warrant that. 18M raising to 24M is a very good price though. If he wants to go (which seems to be the case seeing as his form has dipped dramatically recently) it's a good deal for the Mackems. Not sure who they will replace him with though, which is the key question...
