thenige
Means they'll revert back to a 4-5-1 shape with Gyan and Wellbeck the most advanced players. Seems a decent deal all round to me.

EthiGeordie
How can Villa be tight on money with O'Neill so he walks, then splash £18m on Bent? They could have kept O'Neill and gave him that kind of money and be sitting in 6th right now instead of near the bottom. Absloutly spot on.... Getting rid of a manager who finish you top 6 for three years in a row and hire a clueless one and then buy him a striker for 18 million.... madness... Cronky
£18m is a reflection of Villa's desperation and the usual fee inflation that happens in January. As others have said, it's a very good deal for Sunderland.
jdckelly
you do wonder whats brought the transfer request on it can't be to play for villa surely (no offence brummie) not when the scum could get europe
ponsaelius
If Asamoah Gyan struggles Sunderland are toast. Exactly. The guy has a history of sporadic bouts of form and can go chronically off the boil when not confident. You just need to look at his ACoN a few years back. It's a big risk if they don't spend right from now. If they do however it could be a great piece of business.

Novocastrian
Good deal for Sunderland, the days of average to good players of Bent's standard going for 20 million are drawing to a close. As stated, it's difficult to fit him into a system with another striker. His goal ratio is good but this looks like a panic buy by Villa, crazy price. colinmk
How come that guy wouldn't give MO'N anymore cash now he's spending 20m on Bent? Because, as i have been saying since the summer, MON was not told he could not have more money, he was told he had to do something about the unused dross on high wages that MON signed and was not using. MON agreed to, then decided not to, then stropped off. The press bought into this "selling club" / "lost interest" bullshit because the vast majority of them were so keen to suck MON's cock over it. I see. Good signing for Villa I would say. Expensive but will score goals.

Because if he'd given MON that money, he'd had bought Aiden McGeady and Kevin Doyle, that's why. And we didn't "get rid of" him, he walked out on us. Gash
Class player, will score goals wherever he is. A tad expensive perhaps but still i think he's class. Manure fans will be pissed if they get Wellbeck permanent (doubt Manu would sell.)
